The Franciscan Life Center, located at 271 Finch Avenue in Meriden, Connecticut, is a health institution founded and operated by the Franciscan Sisters of the Eucharist. Inspired by the teachings of Saint Francis of Assisi, the center offers counseling and educational services to individuals seeking healing, perspective, and purpose in their lives.
The tranquil campus, surrounded by beautifully landscaped grounds, ponds, and walking paths, provides a peaceful environment for reflection and spiritual growth. Licensed by the State of Connecticut as an Outpatient Mental Health Facility, the center aims to uphold the sacredness of human life and meet the psycho-social, spiritual, and educational needs of each person.
Founded in 1974 by Mother Shaun Vergauwen, FSE, the Franciscan Life Center has grown from a small counseling agency to a comprehensive center serving over 1,500 individuals and families each month. Through the dedication of the Franciscan Sisters and the support of volunteers, the center continues to provide hope and healing to those in need, following the example set by Saint Francis of Assisi.

"Me & Wife have been seeing Sister Barbara for years. She has been and continues to be our saving grace. I have recommended this facility to friends & Family. I truly believe that the entire staff goes out of their way to help the patients with any issues that are discussed! The good LORD has blessed us with his helpful guidance through Sister Barbara, and we are so Thankful for That!!! I hope and wish that future patients have such a warm, and wonderful experience that we have benefitted from in years to come!! May GOD Bless the Franciscan Life Center, and all the wonderful things they do for many years to come. Respectfully Submitted!!! Jerry/Maggie Farina"
"I love this place , I found peace , there are very loving people"
"I used to be a patient of the FL Center. I was in college abroad, and I would have appointments every 6 months when I was home. I did this for 5 years. When I graduated and came back full time to CT, I tried to make an appointment, but I was told that I had been dropped as a patient, since I hadn't had an appointment in 3 months. As I said, I would make an appointment every time I came back from Europe about every *6* months (something that my APRN, my counselor, and the receptionist were all aware of). I was told they couldn't reintake me because my APRN had been pulled away to a leadership role within the Franciscans, and they were short staffed. I had been trying to find a place I was comfortable with, when 2 years later (August 2018), I decided to try the Franciscan Life Center again. This time they were taking new patients. I finished the intake process in early October, but never received a call to schedule an appointment. When I finally called them after waiting, I was told that I had basically been overlooked, and now they were not taking new patients. It really sucks especially when you're depressed, suicidal, and have to fight your inner demons to convince yourself that you are worthy enough to have help. I have never felt so unwanted/worthless by a mental health professional or office."
"Lauren has helped me tremendously, she's honestly the only counselor worth seeing."
"Some of the things they said to me were so unexpectedly outdated that I was initially too confused to be upset. They're old fashioned in the worst ways, they will judge you without helping you."
