Reviews
"I had an upsetting experience with this physician. She is my mother's OGYN and delivered me, so I didn't hesitate to make an appointment for my first gynecological visit. I really wished I had googled her first. My experience was similar to that of the reviews that I've read. Everything seemed to be going fine at the appointment. A nurse put me into an examining room and told me to wait for Dr. Brines. A new minutes later, the nurse came in and said that the doctor would see me in her office instead. I went to her office, where she said that she would not do an exam because I needed addressing my weight was more important. I told her that I was working on losing the weight that I had gained in college. Also, I confided in her that I had just lost my father unexpectedly and that I was trying to deal with the grief in a healthier way. She barely looked me in the eyes. She suggested joining Weight Watchers and gave me a birth control sample (which I didn't ask for). She told me that I probably have PCOs because of the weight gain (though I don't think she could know that since she refused to examine me or even me if I was experiencing PCOs symptoms). Also, she said that the birth control should help with my skin, which was incredibly rude. I said that I would like to think about it because I know there can be side effects and she practically rolled her eyes at me. I asked about having an exam. She said that I didn't need an exam, I needed to lose weight. I left. I went to another doctor who would examine me. Both my mother and I changed doctors. Since then I have lost the weight. I don't know if she treats overweight patients this way thinking that it will motivate to lose weight or if she just thinks she can get away with it. Either way, she is a bully. The behavior I experienced with Dr. Brines was incredibly unprofessional and unacceptable. While I normally do not talk about someone in this way without them being present to defend themselves, I write this review hoping that it might save another women from crying in her car after such an appointment like I did. I shouldn't have to say this but here is goes - JUST BECAUSE YOU ARE OVERWEIGHT DOES NOT MEAN THAT YOU DON'T CARE ABOUT YOUR HEALTH. THAT IS WHY YOU MADE THE APPOINTMENT. YOU ARE ENTITLED TO AN EXAM AND STANDARD MEDICAL TREATMENT. WEIGHT LOSS ADVISE SHOULD BE ENCOURAGING NOT DEGRADING."
