"Hartford solicited me by phone re: auto insurance. Upon relaying interest in getting a quote I was told a SOFT PULL WITH NO IMPACT TO MY CREDIT SCORE was necessary. I was assured it would be a soft pull only with no impact to my score. Later, by mail, I was advised it was a hard pull (most assuredly negatively impacting my credit score). I was not happy. I telephoned Hartford re: being deceived by their caller soliciting me; then, realized my call was put on "mute"; the rep wasn't even listening! Hartford has lost my business for life. Just look at all their many low, low, low rated reviews. Shame on Hartford!"
"Terrible company, unfortunately my employer forces us to use them for LTD. They will make up reason to deny you coverage. They supposedly send an explanation letter but it mysteriously gets lost in the mail. You only get 90 days to appeal the decision. Of course by the time you realize you don't have coverage and try to get another letter it will be too late to appeal anyways. Total scam."
"I wanted to change my auto coverage the last day it was in effect, paid bi-yearly. $238 for 6 months. Not open in the evening. Website horrific to navigate to do it myself. So worried about not having any coverage, I signed up for another company, paid the entire year, sent myself screenshot of cancelling with Hartford with their chat. They ignore it, kept emailing me, called spoke to 2 different reps who were like on autopilot kept saying the same thing over and over. Then I complain to the main office in CT, and to my own state's insurance consumer dept., govt.entity. I get an email from Hartford saying it was cancelled, like the next day from when I did the chat cancellation. They want $79! Even if I paid for 1 extra day, which I'm disputing, it would be 1/180th of $238 which is $1.32. They are nice when they're trying to get your business but the worst company I've dealt with to cancel in 40 years. Plus they took my premium up with no accidents or claims. Even tho I drive less than 1,000 miles a year and the car is 17 years old! What a racket they have getting all the seniors to sign up because of their association with AARP. The reps told me their policy runs for a year, and put forth that because I cancelled at 6-month mark I owed 6 more months! My state has a law that says it has to run 6 months at a time. If you can, you may want to avoid this company."
"Family member was on FLMA for years and tried to go on disability. The hartford did their best NOT to pay the claims and in fact found two doctors (that reviewed her paperwork) to override the family doctor for treated her for years (with doctor visits, etc). All so they did not have to pay the claim. The Hartford is a waste of money."
"They handled my families claim in a timely manner, definitely one of the better insurance companies out there."
