"Allowed me to check in 2 hours early. Although they charge a $25/hr late check out fee. Location is beside #1 red train and so is convenient or on train line if Times Square canal street and the Statue of Liberty. Bathrooms are clean coffee shops and bakery are so good and strong communication from front desk size. Rooms are small but comfortable and thus far no complaints"
"I've stayed here numerous times over 20 years. Safe for solo travelers. They have a coffee shop / cafe open 6am to 11pm everyday, so you don't even need to leave the hostel if you don't want to. They have laundry, you use your credit card to pay, and they sell laundry soap for $2 in quarters. The bathrooms are nice, the showers are tiled and beautiful. The place is clean. Each bed comes with bedding (pillow, sheets, blanket) and a towel and a locker. They sell locks for $6. If you need to store bags, they will store them until 11 pm for $5 total irregardless of number of bags. Front desk service and check in available 24 hours. One block away from a subway, three blocks away from a different subway line. 24 hour bodega across the street. Elevators, full kitchen (in basement), multiple lounge areas, outside enclosed patio, many free offerings of guided tours, and more. Respectful guests. Each bed has two outlets and a bed light, for either if you are on a top bunk or bottom bunk. Great vibes all around."
"HI NYC is a very nice hotel for its cheap price (I had it for $44 a night on week days and I stayed for 11 days total), and its emplacement is perfect next to 104st subway station (connecting to line 1 only but it's one of the most important ones). It's also close to Central Park, in front of a cheap Deli, close to Target, fast foods and all kind of stuff. Inside the hotel towels are provided, soap is attached to the wall in the shower. You even have a hair dryer next to the sink. It is a shared bathroom (if you choose multi-beds). But honestly it's really not bad at all. The bedroom is nice you have two pillows and a blanket, as well as a locker. The only downside of the room is that the heater during winter is not great, and also the windows are not double glazed and badly insulated. So it's very easy for the cold to enter, you will feel it in January. I guess it's great during summer. Laundry is second floor and accessible without fees. The lobby has a reception but also a cafe area serving sandwiches, salads, muffins, coffees, sodas etc. (a small hot chocolate is $2.25, so there's that!). The lobby also has a billiard and game area, multiple cozy tables where people work/study on laptops. They host events during the week as well, although I didn't have time to participate since I wanted to visit NYC. Overall I really enjoyed my stay and I would definitely come back. My flight was cancelled twice (January 2024 Alaska Airlines national drama) and I kept going back here. Sometimes the receptionist seemed very bored and uninterested of their job which I understand but that's alright."
"I had a really positive experience staying in this hostel.... here are my reasons: 1) Location is just one block from the subway, 2) it's well organized with lights, outlets, and lockers for every bed, and 3) the cafe is open pretty much all the time so you don't need to worry about where to get breakfast. I also requested a bottom bunk via email a couple of weeks ahead, and they honored my request. The only small problem I did have is that there were two women's bathrooms on my floor, but only one of them had hot water in the showers. Once I found that one, everything was fine, but the first night of showering was a struggle."
"During my week-long stay at Hi New York hostel from December 14th to 21st, I found the overall experience to be quite enjoyable. The check-in process was seamless, thanks to the ever-present front desk staff who were helpful and efficient, ensuring a smooth start to my stay. The proximity of the canteen and cafeteria next to the reception area added to the convenience. The cafeteria offered a delightful selection of freshly baked goods and various beverages, making it a pleasant spot to unwind. While I explored nearby Bodegas for budget-friendly groceries, the hostel's public kitchen became my go-to for preparing breakfast and dinner. Although the communal kitchen occasionally suffered from post-use neglect, the dedicated hostel staff ensured it remained clean and well-equipped. The cleanliness of the shared facilities extended to the toilets, which were consistently well-maintained and stocked with amenities. This attention to hygiene contributed significantly to a positive overall experience. Despite booking a bed in a 12-bed room, I was pleasantly surprised by the spaciousness and the daily cleaning routine carried out by the diligent hostel staff. Adding to the positive experience, the Hi New York hostel's location proved to be exceptionally convenient for exploring major destinations. The hostel's close proximity to a subway station, just a 2-minute walk away, made traveling around the city a breeze. This accessibility enhanced the overall convenience of my stay, allowing me to easily reach and explore various attractions without any hassle. The strategic location near the subway station was undoubtedly a valuable asset for anyone looking to make the most of their time in the city. In essence, Hi New York hostel provided a comfortable and budget-friendly accommodation option with its friendly staff, convenient amenities, and well-maintained communal spaces. My stay was marked by a harmonious balance of affordability and quality service."
