"We were here today for a late lunch (2pm) and although the whole experience was ok, there is room for improvement. The food was good but the service could be a lot better. I don’t know if we just got unlucky with our particular waiter but it looked like they really didn’t care much. Our glasses of water were never refilled, we had to ask for salt / pepper / sugar, they forgot part of our order (came late after our mains), and when I asked for a substitution (really easy) they said it couldn’t be done, when it was just adding ham on my omelette (my husband ordered a sandwich and we just took the ham in it and added it to the omelette ourselves but it was something that could have been easily done in the kitchen?). Later I saw another waiter go out of their way for a substitution at the table next to us so again, maybe we were just unlucky. Anyways, I’m not sure we will be back, but I hope the service gets better."
"I recently had to travel to Brooklyn for work, and spent most of week meeting up with people at As You Are at Ace Hotel Brooklyn. (I basically used the place as my office since the restaurant and lobby offer free wifi.) I ate multiple times at As You Are -- breakfast, lunch, dinner and even weekend brunch -- with multiple table sizes -- 2 people, 4 people, 6 people, etc. -- and all the meals were great!! A few of my favorite menu items: - Cured smoked salmon plate - Fruit bowl - Chicken soup - Pork sandwich - Chicken sesame salad - Hippie sandwich - Buddha bowl - Burger - Bucatini - Bass en croute The bakery is great too, as is the cocktail list and I LOVED the non-alcoholic "refreshers." (The carrot and hibiscus ones were my favorite!)"
"Had a bizarrely bad experience here. It was so off that I wonder if it was just poor luck and they were having a freak off day because I don't know how else they would be in business if every day was like this. My companion and I came for brunch at 11am. We were seated then greeted by our main server Sandra who took our initial drink orders. Then another waiter came by to take our food orders. I ordered the warm biscuit with strawberry marscapone spread and a side of mixed greens. But I could kinda tell the waiter wasn't really paying attention because he was looking around elsewhere, and seemed totally spaced out, and so I repeated my order just in case. He wrote some stuff down. After a while Sandra comes by with a Green Monster smoothie and asked if I ordered this. I said no and she took it away. Then a third server came by and brought me a sad-looking biscuit on a plate...with no spread or anything. I asked about the spread because honestly I was more excited about trying a strawberry marscapone spread than just a biscuit, and he said they had run out and he could bring me some butter. I declined and asked to see the menu again to order something else because I didn't want to just eat a plain biscuit. Eventually I ordered and received the porridge which was a little bland but ok, but my mixed greens never came. I guess the Green Monster smoothie that came earlier was what he thought I was ordering? (Even though I both pointed at the item on the menu when ordering and repeated it) In the end, at least they did not put the mixed greens on the bill and took the sad biscuit off the bill so that's good. And Sandra was an absolutely saint for dealing with this whole fiasco so I made sure to tip her well. The decor of the place is really strange with a lot of heavy, disjointed art. Not really a cohesive vibe at all. It was reasonably quiet though, and not crowded even at brunch time on a Saturday (which should've been a hint). Anyway I hope they get it together and that Sandra gets a raise."
"Actually don't understand why this place has this low rating. Brunch options are good Juices are very fresh French onion bread was too good, one of the best I have had . I got the Chilaquiles, while not the best, it was definitely one of the better ones I have had My spouse got the salmon plate, it came with quinoa roasted hash browns, it was good looking and tasted good. Personally not my favorite, but was novel They have hippie sandwich, which I thought was good az well. On the whole , I will come back to try this again."
"Came here for St John’s pop-up supper. The ox cheek pie was phenomenal, from the pulled cheek meat, to the crust and even the bone marrow. It was delicious and very filling. It would be perfect if it was less salty and had more greens to come with. The Dr.Henderson Ice Cream wasn’t too sweet and tasted very strong spirits, quite interesting. The dishes were delicious and the service was great. However I was bit confused about the check. The total bill came out with suggested tip percentage at the bottom. Unlike many other restaurants, they calculated the tips before the tax, which I really appreciated. However, when we get the split bill and pay our own shares, the tips included the tax! Although it wasn’t a huge difference, I would prefer the tips calculation is aligned."
