Balmac Pharmacy
About the Business
Welcome to Balmac Pharmacy, located at 128 Helensburgh Road, Dunedin, New Zealand. We are a trusted establishment that specializes in health and pharmacy services. As a point of interest and store, we offer a wide range of products and services to support your well-being.
In response to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, we are dedicated to serving our community. We provide COVID-19 testing, vaccination, and antiviral medicine without the need for a prescription. Your health and safety are our top priorities, and we strive to ensure that you have access to the necessary resources during these challenging times.
Our team of knowledgeable pharmacists is here to support the health of your entire family. We offer advice and treatment for common minor illnesses across all age groups. When it comes to prescriptions, you can trust that our pharmacists will dispense them accurately and ensure that the medication and dosage are appropriate for you. We want you to receive the maximum benefits from your medicines, which is why we take the time to help you understand their purpose, proper usage, potential side effects, and storage requirements.
At Balmac Pharmacy, we prioritize professionalism and confidentiality. Most of our services are provided free of charge and do not require an appointment. We also offer a safe disposal service for expired or unwanted medicines at no cost to you.
Please note that we are closed on public holidays, including King's Birthday, Matariki, Labour Day, Waitangi Day, Otago Anniversary, Good Friday, Easter Sunday, Easter Monday, and ANZAC Day.
Immunization is crucial for protecting your health and the health of your tamariki (children). For more information, you can refer to the NZ immunization schedule.
If you are taking clozapine, it is essential to receive regular blood tests to ensure the appropriate dosage. Our pharmacy will monitor your blood tests to ensure your well-being.
For individuals with long-term illnesses, our medication management service is designed to provide support. Our pharmacists will assess any factors that may affect your ability to take medication as prescribed and work with you to address each issue. We can also coordinate your medications to synchronize prescription repeats, minimizing the number of trips you need to make for refills. Additionally, we offer a reminder service via text message, email, or phone call to notify you when your next supply of medications is ready for collection. If you are experiencing difficulties in managing your medicines, please consult with our pharmacists to see if this service is suitable for you.
Balmac Pharmacy works in collaboration with the DHB Opioid Substitution Treatment (OST) program. Our staff can administer methadone or Suboxone on a daily or takeaway basis, depending on the agreed-upon arrangement.
To ensure you take your medicines correctly, we offer compliance packaging services. This involves repackaging your medicines into blister packs or sachet rolls that indicate when to take them. This packaging method helps you take your medication at the right time and makes it easier to track if you have missed a dose or are running low. It is especially useful for travelers, as it eliminates the need for multiple containers.
Our trained pharmacists can assess whether the Emergency Contraceptive Pill (ECP) is appropriate for you in a confidential manner. The ECP is most effective when taken as soon as possible after unprotected intercourse, but it can still be taken up to 72 hours afterward. Please note that there is usually a charge associated with receiving the ECP.
For men aged 35 to 70 years who meet specific assessment criteria, our specially trained pharmacists can prescribe sildenafil for erectile dysfunction.
Women between the ages of 16 and 65 who are not pregnant and do not have any complicating factors can obtain the antibiotics nitrofurantoin or trimethoprim for urinary tract infections without a prescription. Our pharmacists will conduct a consultation to ensure the appropriateness of the medicine and refer you to a GP if necessary.
If you require reports on your medicines or information about the cost of your medications, please feel free to ask a member of our pharmacy team.
For the latest information on COVID-19 antiviral medicine and eligibility criteria, please visit the Ministry of Health website. To receive the medication, please contact our pharmacist immediately after testing positive or developing symptoms to determine if it is suitable for you.
At Balmac Pharmacy, we are committed to helping people quit smoking. Our trained staff can provide advice and support aids such as nicotine gum to assist you in your journey towards a smoke-free life.
