About the Business
Welcome to Housewithnonails, an extraordinary institution located in the heartland of New Zealand. Our magnificent and cozy accommodation option is a labor of love, handcrafted by Dewi using construction methods dating back to the 10th century. What sets us apart is the fact that there were no nails used in the magnificent timber framing. Instead, a network of beams, rafters, and braces are interlocked and secured by wooden pegs, creating a unique and awe-inspiring sight for our guests to marvel at.
Our story begins with Cyclone Bola in 1988, which provided the timber for our dream house in the country. Twenty-five cubic meters of macrocarpa and poplar, along with oak spikes, were hand-hewn by Dewi in a neighbor's workshop. In 1992, the frames were raised in a traditional community "barn-raising" event.
In 2017, we made the decision to open our special home for accommodation, offering a truly unique experience in New Zealand. At Housewithnonails, you will find yourself in the hands of wonderful hosts, Jen and Dewi. Their warm hospitality will make you feel at home, as if you have known them a lifetime. Their care, hospitality, and information will ensure a memorable stay.
Our beautiful home offers sweeping views of the gorgeous countryside, with creatively stylish decor throughout. The combination of modern country comfort and impeccable design creates a cozy and welcoming ambiance. Jen and Dewi's warmth and friendliness will make you feel instantly at ease, and they are always ready to help plan your itinerary and make your stay unforgettable.
Don't just take our word for it, here are some reviews from our guests:

"This is the jewel in the crown for a place to stay. I cannot say enough about this place. Jen and Dewi were both such wonderful hosts, going out of their way to make us feel comfortable and at home. The House was amazing with a hand made story to boot. Clean, spacious, Fantastic beds and rooms. Breakfast was stunning, home baked bread with cereal options. Very spoiled for choice. I not only recommend this property, but will be staying here again next time we come through."
"Fantastic place, great view of the kaimais, and fantastic rustic feel and plenty of beds. Was perfect for my sister's 21st, and a great getaway close to Hamilton. While the weatherboards have nails, the Interior stands as advertised without any metal nails and is a structural feat!"
"You should definitely go there! We had a wonderful night at House with nails. Not only thanks to the beautiful home that was build with so much love and care but also thanks to the amazing hosts. We felt at home in this beautiful house. They cooked a home made meal for us that was delicious. It was also my birthday that day and they made everything so special for me and my boyfriend. We hope to come back soon as it was a real coup de coeur. ❤️ Thank you."
"Wow. Such a warm and welcoming stay from Jen and Dewi. It really felt like a home from home and was really comfortable for our family of two adults and two children (6 months and 2.5 years) - the bed was amazingly comfortable and the shower has to be seen to be believed! Dewi kindly took our (tractor obsessed) son to see his tractor and then (hero alert) drove from their house to Hobbiton to reunite him with his fire truck that we had left behind!! Jen made us a delightful apple crumble to accompany the family meal we made the night before. Lots of great conversations in a very special house. Highly recommend if you’re in the area. Thanks for a wonderful stay!!"
