Located just 21 km from Rotorua on Trout Pool Road, off SH 33 (the Rotorua to Tauranga highway), Tutea Falls is easily accessible, making it a perfect day trip destination for locals and tourists alike. However, it's important to note that the currents and waterfalls in the area can be dangerously strong, so it is crucial to stay on the designated track for your safety.
As part of our commitment to preserving the natural ecosystem, we kindly ask visitors to report any sightings of koi carp, catfish, rudd, and gambusia, as these invasive species can have detrimental effects on the water quality and native wildlife. If you happen to catch any of these species, please photograph them and forward the images to your local DOC office, following the Check Clean Dry protocols.
At Tutea Falls, we strive to provide a memorable experience that combines the beauty of nature with the thrill of adventure. Join us in our efforts to protect this precious environment and stop the spread of pest fish in Rotorua. Together, we can ensure the conservation of this remarkable tourist attraction for generations to come.

Reviews of Tutea Falls
"Really short walk to a waterfall if you want a quick stop to stretch the legs. Quite a cool walkway dug into the side of a hill."
"A great area to walk, the track is fairly wide and not steep. Nice forest with native trees, ferns and bird. Lots of parking available. The stairs down to the cave are very narrow and steep, you can walk through the cave - part of the tunnel is low and narrow though"
"Tutea Falls in New Zealand proved to be an enchanting destination, offering a beautiful sight with its cascading waters and serene surroundings. The well-maintained tracks and stairs made for a pleasant and accessible journey, allowing visitors to fully appreciate the natural splendor of the falls. The thoughtful placement of informative signage and the convenience of a well-designed car park further enhanced our experience. We were able to effortlessly navigate and immerse ourselves in the breathtaking beauty of Tutea Falls. This picturesque haven is truly deserving of a five-star rating!"
"A great hike with 3 interesting view spots. The overall hike can take up to an hour."
"Might waters! When we visited Tutea Falls, the water was very strong and breathtaking. There is a walkway along the gorge to have a better view of the water gushing through the hills. As you continue with these tracks, you will come to some small caves. You can go inside either of the caves first and will come out the other. We went on a sunny day and it was worth it. You do not have to pay to visit Tutea Falls ... There are two ways to get here, one from Okere car car park and the other car park at the end of the road. The same road where you have to turn right into Okere car park. You can see three waterfalls in this region. From Okere falls car park, the viewing point of Tutea is only 600m. The track is well maintained and easy to get to and fro."
