Edmonds Park
About the Business
Welcome to Edmonds Park, a charming establishment and popular tourist attraction located at 357 Ferry Road in Christchurch, New Zealand. This park holds a special place in the hearts of locals and visitors alike, as it was commissioned by Thomas Edmonds, the renowned manufacturer of the beloved Edmonds baking powder brand. The park was created in 1923 to accompany his new factory, and it has since become a horticultural delight for generations.
When you arrive at Edmonds Park, you can easily access it from either Ferry Road or Ryan Street. There is a dedicated car park at the back of the gardens, and you can reach it by taking the long driveway off Ferry Road. Please note that while dogs are allowed in the gardens, they must be leashed at all times to protect the heritage plantings.
Beyond the gardens, you'll discover the expansive Edmonds Park, featuring large playing fields and a wonderful children's playground. This park offers ample space for recreational activities and is perfect for families looking to enjoy a day outdoors.
Edmonds Park and its stunning factory have even graced the cover of the best-selling Edmonds Cookery Book. The gardens have been recognized with numerous awards in civic beautifying competitions, a testament to the dedication and skill of the full-time gardeners who once maintained the formal geometric beds, lawns, and annual plantings until the late 1980s.
In 1991, the City Council acquired a significant portion of the original Edmonds Factory Garden after the building was demolished and the property was sub-divided. Since then, the park has seen the addition of a beautiful rose garden and an oval garden. In recent years, new enclosed areas with a more natural style have been developed, focusing on low maintenance and featuring permanent plantings of evergreen shrubs and dwarf conifers.
If you're interested in booking a site at Edmonds Factory Gardens, be sure to check the terms and conditions provided on our website. We are grateful for the support of the local community and the dedicated group known as Friends of the Edmonds Factory Garden. The Friends play a vital role in caring for the garden, diligently weeding, pruning, and organizing working bees. They also take special care of the rose and scented gardens, ensuring that Edmonds Park remains a breathtaking oasis for all to enjoy.
Join us at Edmonds Park and experience the beauty and tranquility of this beloved institution. Whether you're seeking a leisurely stroll, a picnic on the grounds, or a fun-filled day with your family, our park offers something for everyone. Come and create lasting memories in the enchanting Edmonds Park.

"Pretty spot to have a break right in the heart of a busy shopping precinct. An area that has an interesting history that you wouldn't even know was there which I guess is part of the charm."
