"I’ve brought many items from the people at cactus and all of it is sturdy and hard wearing. My recap hat happens to be my fav and goes with me on all holidays, shades reliably, and the gold patch adds a touch of dinner party fanciness."
"Bombproof products and brilliant service! If you're looking for tough, durable products that last, then this is the place for you."
"I purchased the CNC shorts size L (the website chart has this at 91cm) for $229.00. They arrived and did not fit me, I measured them and they were about 88cm, when I emailed, I was instructed that this is normal?!! The chart says 91cm, but 88cm is okay? I then arranged and paid $80 for cactus to add a 3cm "pie" extension to the size - the shorts arrived back, and still no change. I took them to a men's wear shop here in Nelson (Nelson Taylor's Menswear) and they gave me the measurement of: 44cm (88cm waist) - this is AFTER 3cm have been added by the cactus trailers in Christchurch. The maths is not adding up - I told customer service this was what is happening, I sent photos of the modification, and also photos of Hard Yakka L, Billabong L, and several other 44cm shorts - the cactus was clearly smaller - despite having an added 3cm! I was desperate to make these work, I wanted to wear them as workshorts - I work for a big company (airNZ) and maybe they could have been incorporated for engineers and tarmac staff as workwear. My shorts are still sitting unworn and gathering dust. FYI: I am a normal sized L male just over 6ft and these shorts should fit me, they DEFINITELY should fit me with an added 3cm - but no change. Words cannot begin to express my disappointment, at the customer service, and my disappointment at a kiwi owned and operated company. This cost me $229.00 + $80.00 + 2 x shipping amounts = more than $300.00 and all i received was the $80 modification fee refunded. My shorts are not fit for purpose - even the pie extension does not have the double re-enforced band = weak point. Fairydown repairs on my sleeping bags and tramping packs have been free. Fairdown vs. Cactus - massive difference."
"I purchased a pair of Cactus trousers and shorts for workwear due to their reputation as hard wearing. A pair of cheap jeans would last a me a year so I thought it was worth spending more for a quality NZ made product that would last many years and would reduce waste. Both Cactus products blew out the inseams within 12 months. The stiffness of the fabric causes them to wear through anywhere there is a crease. The zip broke on the trousers. Considering the company slogan "gear to be worn in, not worn out" and the price point the products are sold at I fell justified in feeling let down. I have since purchased some Hard Yakka trousers and shorts from Bunnings for half the price which have been used for about 18 months each with minimal wear and tear. When I spoke to Cactus about the issues I was having and they did not offer a resolution. I was asked if still wanted the trousers I had dropped off for repair or if they should be thrown out and that was it. I am quite disappointed in my experience with the products and the staff and would recommend to others who are looking for quality workwear trousers and shorts to shop elswhere."
