Bishopdale Park Playground
About the Business
Welcome to Bishopdale Park Playground, located in Canterbury, Christchurch, New Zealand. Our establishment is a point of interest that offers a range of recreational activities for visitors of all ages. We are excited to announce that we have released a plan to revitalize our skate area and we are seeking feedback from the community.
Currently, our skate park on Leacroft St is one of the largest suburban skate areas in the city. However, it is in poor condition and nearing the end of its lifespan. To address this, the Christchurch City Council has led an upgrade project with the goal of making the skate park suitable for beginner and intermediate skill level skaters.
To design the new landscape plan, we have commissioned landscape designer Richard Smith of Rich Landscapes, who specializes in skate park design. The concept plan includes exciting skate features such as a pump bump, low pyramid, rollovers, and a jersey barrier blended into a rollover finger. Additionally, we will provide bench seating and a picnic table for visitors to relax and enjoy the park.
As part of the upgrade, existing concrete slabs will be resealed and the quarter pipe will be replaced with a granite ledge and a smaller half pipe. The total area of the skate park will increase from 1197 sqm to nearly 1300 sqm, making it even more expansive than the Knights Stream Skate Park in Halswell.
We value the input of our community and invite you to give your feedback on the proposed design. The Council is especially seeking input from local schools, including Breens Intermediate, Isleworth School, Cotswold School, and Bishopdale School. You can share your comments online through the Have Your Say platform. We have also distributed public information leaflets to approximately 500 properties and key stakeholders.
Furthermore, we are hosting the Celebrate Bishopdale free family activities day on 24 November at Bishopdale Park. This event will include the Bishopdale Skate Jam, a have-a-go youth event held in the skate area. It will be a great opportunity for you to chat with Council staff about the revamp plan and share your suggestions and ideas.
We believe that improving the Bishopdale Park skate area will make it even more appealing to young people in the area and provide them with exciting challenges. We are committed to continuous improvement and community engagement, as demonstrated by our upcoming community consultation on the proposed design for the Bays Area Skate and Scooter Park in Sumner, starting in December, and the St Albans Skate Park extension early next year.
We look forward to your feedback and involvement in creating a vibrant and enjoyable Bishopdale Park Playground.
