Glentui Loop Track
About the Business
Welcome to Glentui Loop Track, a must-visit tourist attraction located in the picturesque Mount Thomas Forest Conservation Area in the Canterbury region of New Zealand. Nestled in the heart of nature, this establishment offers a unique and invigorating experience for all outdoor enthusiasts.
Starting from the Glentui picnic area, the track takes you on an unforgettable journey through the stunning landscape. As you begin your adventure, the track descends to a charming bridge that spans the Glentui River, offering picturesque views and a tranquil ambiance. From there, the track ascends a ridge on the other side, providing breathtaking panoramic vistas of the surrounding wilderness.
While the initial section of the track may be steep in certain areas, the rewarding views and serene atmosphere make it well worth the effort. It is important to note that there are a few major drop-offs along the way before reaching the ridge, so caution is advised.
The Glentui Loop Track is also connected to other notable tracks, such as the Bypass Track and Richardson Track, allowing you to explore even more of the natural wonders in the area. After your adventure, you can easily return to the picnic area, where you can relax and enjoy a well-deserved break.
This family-friendly walk is suitable for individuals with moderate fitness levels. However, it is essential to wear sturdy footwear to ensure a safe and comfortable experience. For the best experience, we recommend walking in an anti-clockwise direction, allowing you to fully immerse yourself in the beauty of the surroundings.
To reach Glentui Loop Track from Oxford, simply follow Ashley Gorge Road for approximately 13 kilometers until you reach Glentui. From there, turn into Glentui Bush Road and continue for another 6 kilometers until you reach the end of the road. The journey itself is a scenic delight, adding to the overall charm of your visit.
Please be aware that from January to March, the area experiences high populations of wasps. To ensure your safety, we recommend wearing light-colored clothing and carrying antihistamine cream or tablets as a precautionary measure.
So, whether you are a nature lover, an avid hiker, or simply seeking a peaceful escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, Glentui Loop Track is the perfect destination for you. Embark on an unforgettable journey through the stunning Mount Thomas Forest Conservation Area and create memories that will last a lifetime.

Reviews
"Love this walk and waterfall. I frequently go here for a quick hour or so and walk through the forest."
"Pretty step in places. Dog friendly. Loop track took us 1:10hr. Two kids were ok"
"Ok for a bit of outdoors exercise. Some steps and rocky patches and very muddy. There is a small stream crossing, so glad we did this in gumboots Not really that much to see, but the bush was pretty in places with a light snowfall and there is a waterfall that is viewed from a small side track. This is not spectacular but still a photo opportunity."
"A super hike with wonderful views. Took about around 1 hour in total to get up and back to the car. The nature trail at the top is also worth exploring. There are a few steep parts but just take your time. Wear good shoes and always carry water."
"Great small forest loop track with nice view at a small lake with long waterfalls as the reward for doing this track. Perfect for a hot sunny day when the forest provides shelter for most of the track. Ideal with kids who can walk and climb steep stairs or off you can carry them the whole task."
