Welcome to the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Christchurch Women’s Hospital, located on Riccarton Avenue in Christchurch, New Zealand. In addition to our dedicated clinical team, we are fortunate to have Clinical Senior Lecturers who bring their valuable experience from both the hospital and private sectors. We are proud to offer the combined University of Otago Postgraduate Diploma of Obstetrics & Medical Gynaecology and the Postgraduate Certificate in Women’s Health. These programs provide a comprehensive curriculum and are based within our department, allowing students to benefit from our state-of-the-art facilities and resources.

At the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, we play a significant role in the vocational training of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Christchurch Women’s Hospital. Our clinical staff members are contracted to provide their expertise and services to the Canterbury District Health Board (CDHB). Christchurch Women’s Hospital, which is administered by the Women’s Health Division of the CDHB, is a modern facility that handles over 6,000 deliveries per year. It also provides a wide range of gynaecological services for women in the Canterbury region and acts as a tertiary referral center for Maternal and Fetal Medicine, Gynaecological Oncology, and Neonatal Paediatrics.

Our catchment area for secondary women's health covers approximately 400,000 individuals in North and Central Canterbury. However, our tertiary services extend throughout the entire South Island, ensuring that women from across the region have access to the highest quality care and treatment.
