Tawhai School & Community Emergency Hub
About the Business
Welcome to Tawhai School & Community Emergency Hub, located at 69 Glen Road, Lower Hutt, New Zealand. Our institution is not only a school but also an establishment that serves as a point of interest for the community. We strive to empower our children to flourish in an ever-changing world.
At Tawhai School, we place great importance on celebrating cultural diversity. Recently, we had the pleasure of celebrating Cook Islands Language Week, where Hazel's family kindly shared some delicious doughnuts from their culture with Hazel's Kaiako and classmates in Room 10. We believe in the importance of embracing and learning from different cultures.
In addition, our school values are a significant part of our community. We recently held a special Values assembly to acknowledge and appreciate those students who consistently demonstrate our best Tawhai Kura values. It is important for us to recognize and celebrate the positive attributes our students possess.
Matariki, the Maori New Year, is also a significant celebration at Tawhai School. We have had a hive of activities throughout the school to commemorate this occasion as we come to the end of Term 2. This celebration allows us to connect with our Maori heritage and learn about the traditions and customs associated with Matariki.
We are proud of our strong sense of community at Tawhai School. Our recent Kura Open Afternoon saw a splendid turnout of Tawhai whānau, who came to experience the vibrant and inclusive environment that our school offers. It was a wonderful opportunity for families to engage with our school community and witness the exceptional work being done by our students.
At Tawhai School, we also embrace and celebrate different languages. During Vaiaso o le Gagana Sāmoa, Samoa Language Week, Lina delighted Room 5 with her show and tell, sharing cherished items from her culture. This celebration allows us to appreciate and learn about the rich heritage of Samoa.
Throughout the year, we hold various ceremonies and gatherings to foster a sense of unity and remembrance. Our Mihi Whakatau ceremonies are a special occasion where our Tawhai Kura gathers under the whareruruhau (canopy) to welcome new students and staff. These ceremonies are guided by our Year 6 students, Aysha and Lucy, and serve as a symbol of inclusivity and acceptance.
We also hold our own ANZAC ceremony to honor and remember all those who have served their country in times of war. This ceremony allows us to instill in our students the importance of gratitude and remembrance.
In addition to our academic and cultural activities, we also know how to have fun. The Easter Bunny recently visited our classrooms, bringing joy to our tamariki. The Easter Bunny had heard about the amazing mahi (work) our students had done during Term 1 and wanted to reward them for their efforts.
We also offer before and after school care through the Kelly Club, providing a safe and nurturing environment for our students outside of school hours.
