About the Business
Welcome to Hutt Repertory Theatre, located at 108 Oxford Terrace in Lower Hutt, New Zealand. As an establishment and point of interest, we pride ourselves on providing a space for individuals who are interested in the world of theater. Whether you are an experienced actor or someone who has always dreamed of being on stage, there is a place for you here.
Currently, we are excited to announce auditions for our upcoming production of "‘Twas The Fight Before Christmas" by Devon Williamson. This comedic tale is filled with clever dialogue and hilarious characters that will have you giggling, sniggering, and chortling out loud throughout. Critics have praised the play for its witty wordplay, 'lost in translation' moments, and touchingly thoughtful moments that add contrast and shape the story beautifully.
Auditions, rehearsals, and performances will all take place at Hutt Repertory Theatre. The audition date is set for Sunday, September 3rd, starting at 3:00pm. Some auditionees may be asked to come for a second audition on the evening of the following Tuesday and/or Thursday. The first rehearsal will be held on Sunday, September 17th, from 3:00pm to 6:00pm. Rehearsals will continue every Tuesday and Thursday evening, as well as Sunday afternoons, starting from Tuesday, October 3rd. The performances will take place on the evenings of November 29th to December 1st and December 6th to 9th.
If you are interested in auditioning, please email mary.c-h@outlook.com or text 0220835799 to request a copy of the script and register your interest. Please make sure to include your phone number in your message.
Set in present-day New Zealand, "‘Twas The Fight Before Christmas" follows the story of Mary Harvey, a woman facing her first Christmas alone since the death of her husband. Her disagreeable daughters, Stella and Mandy, return home for the holidays, complicating any chance of harmonious relations. Stella's husband, Desmond, secretly harbors feelings for Mandy, while eccentric neighbor Ivy adds her own unique twist to the family dynamics. And let's not forget about the mysterious French psychologist, Jean-Pierre, who responds to Mary's plea for help in a very eccentric way.
We are looking for actors who enjoy creating comic yet believable characters that are always moving, speaking, and reacting to others on stage in a style that is simultaneously "real" and farcical. Please note that the ages listed for the characters are not necessarily the age requirements for the actors. If you can act younger or older than your actual age, feel free to go for it.
We are thrilled to embark on this theatrical journey and hope to see you at auditions. Join us at Hutt Repertory Theatre, where creativity and passion come to life on stage.

Reviews
"Have attended number of plays over recent years including the most recent 'The Butler did it'. Performances are consistently good. Highly recommended."
"Hutt Rep is a fantastic local theatre space, often showcasing 2 or 3 shows each year. Membership is $20 /year and it's a great way to meet members of your local community. Tickets are well priced with $15 tickets for groups of 10+ up to around $20 full priced. (Prices are dependant on which show it is)."
"A lovely community theatre with wonderful local performances. Comfortable seating, clean and tidy."
"The venue is rather basic and if you have mobility problems you should reserve seats at the very front, or near the front of the raised tier seating . Having said that, the professionalism of the group involved is awe inspiring and any of their productions will impress you, and you will not be disappointed."
"My daughter and I had booked and after parking in a neighbouring street, found the theater. It's a small theater with even though they had adult actors (and actresses) seemed very young to me. All in all a good play."
