GNS Science
About the Business
Welcome to GNS Science, located at 30 Gracefield Road in Lower Hutt, New Zealand. As an establishment and point of interest, we are dedicated to enhancing our understanding of geological and Earth system processes in order to increase Aotearoa New Zealand's resilience to natural hazards and climate change.
In a country that frequently experiences damaging earthquakes, it is surprising that we do not currently have an official national earthquake early warning (EEW) system. At GNS Science, we strive to fill this gap and develop innovative solutions that ensure the environment and our natural resources are sustainably managed for a cleaner, safer, and more prosperous future.
Our research focuses on a wide range of topics, from exploring the past and present health and biodiversity of Lake Wairarapa to revolutionizing ground movement monitoring in New Zealand. With the help of new 3D imaging technology, we are able to provide never-before-seen views inside New Zealand's largest fault, offering valuable insights into its structure and behavior.
Furthermore, our dedication to understanding climate change and geohazard risk has led us to develop a low carbon future. We are constantly working towards driving innovation and growth in our energy system, ensuring that Aotearoa New Zealand is well-prepared for the challenges that lie ahead.
In addition, we pride ourselves on our commitment to people. As the famous saying goes, "He tangata, he tangata, he tangata" - it is people who are the most important thing in the world. Our research not only builds resilience but also prioritizes the well-being and safety of individuals and communities across the country.
From drilling sediment cores in Antarctica to creating the first map of vertical land movement, our projects utilize modern data science methods to advance earth science research and grow data science capabilities. By downloading our resources, you agree to abide by the rules and terms outlined in our Terms and Conditions, ensuring mutual respect and responsible use of our materials.
Join us on this exciting journey as we work towards a sustainable and resilient future for Aotearoa New Zealand. Discover more about our research and how it is shaping the future of our country.
