Taita Kindergarten

Welcome to Taita Kindergarten, a vibrant and inclusive learning institution nestled in the heart of Lower Hutt, New Zealand. As an establishment that prides itself on being a point of interest and a school, we are dedicated to nurturing a lifelong passion for learning in our tamariki (children).

At Taita Kindergarten, we believe in the power of play as a means of education. Our dedicated team of kaiako (teachers) create immersive experiences and opportunities that encourage children to question, explore, and creatively discover new ways of learning. Through play, we foster the development of essential social-emotional skills and cultivate a positive attitude towards education.

What sets us apart is our commitment to being a meeting place for whānau (families) in our diverse and multicultural suburb. Taita Kindergarten is a safe space where tamariki can freely express their unique identities and celebrate their cultural backgrounds. Our philosophy is beautifully captured in the whakatauki (proverb), "Poipoia te kakano Kia puawai" - Nurture the seed and it will blossom.

As part of the KidsCan ECE program, we provide nutritious meals for all children five days a week. Our menu includes sandwiches, yogurt, fruit, and three cooked meals per week. Additionally, each child receives a new pair of shoes and a rain jacket, ensuring their comfort and well-being.

Let us introduce you to our wonderful team: Head Teacher Maria Dalope, Teacher Malama Slade, Teacher Jemina Mckirdy, and Teacher Anne-Marie Marinan (relieving). Our dedicated Kindergarten Administrator Clare Allanson and Teacher Support Vanessa Ilott are also here to support the growth and development of our tamariki.

Our sessions run from Monday to Friday, from 8.30 am to 2.30 pm, accommodating a maximum group size of 30 children. We follow a term-based schedule, with Term 1 running from 25 Jan to 6 Apr, Term 2 from 24 Apr to 30 Jun, Term 3 from 17 Jul to 22 Sep, and Term 4 from 9 Oct to 21 Dec.
