Wood Hatton Playcentre

Welcome to Wood Hatton Playcentre, a parent-led early childhood education centre located in Lower Hutt, Wood Street. Our institution is a point of interest and a school, catering to all tamariki up to the age of 6. Our motto, "Whānau tupu ngātahi, families growing together," reflects our commitment to empowering adults and children to work, play, learn, and grow together.

At Wood Hatton Playcentre, we believe that parents and whanau are the best people to provide for the growing needs of our children. Under the guidance of our trained session facilitator, we engage in all sorts of messy play, make new friends, and embark on exciting adventures. Our tamariki's learning journey at Playcentre is recorded in their very own profile book, ensuring that their progress is well-documented.

As a parent-led institution, Wood Hatton Playcentre is actively managed, operated, and supervised by parents, grandparents, caregivers, and other whānau members. We value the importance of community, friendships, and whanaungatanga (kinship) in creating a nurturing environment for our children.

One of our unique offerings is our Friday sessions, which are held in the beautiful Wainuiomata Regional Park, usually along the Gums Loop Walk. During our bush sessions, we encourage our tamariki to explore and engage with the natural wonders around them. From learning independence through exploration to fostering a sense of belonging and wellbeing, our bush sessions provide a rich learning experience for our children.

During these sessions, our tamariki have the opportunity to witness the beauty of nature, whether it's watching ducks float by in the river or throwing rocks into the water. We also indulge in activities such as blackberry picking, exploring through trees, rolling down hills, and running around in the rain and puddles. We follow our tamariki's lead, as they know how to play best.
