Adelaide Early Childhood Centre
About the Business
Welcome to Adelaide Early Childhood Centre, nestled in the heart of Newtown, Wellington. We are proud to provide a warm and caring environment, along with quality learning experiences, for your little ones. Our team of experienced and qualified educators are dedicated to ensuring that each child receives the best possible care and education.
At Adelaide, we understand the importance of providing a rich learning environment for young minds and bodies. That's why we have a wide range of indoor and outdoor resources, from play equipment and toys to books and gardens. These resources allow children to explore, learn, and grow in a fun and stimulating environment.
With a maximum roll of 35 children per day, we maintain a low ratio of one staff member for every six children. This ensures that there are always enough teachers available to provide quality learning experiences tailored to each child's stage of development. It also allows us to organize exciting trips into the community, providing children with valuable real-world experiences.
Adelaide is not run for profit, and we believe in the importance of parent involvement in the governance and management of the centre. In fact, a study conducted by the New Zealand Council for Educational Research found that parent cooperatives like Adelaide deliver a higher quality of early childhood education than privately-owned centres.
We understand the demands of busy schedules, which is why we offer flexible pick-up times. However, please note that late pick-ups will incur a fee. Our sessions start at 7.45am, allowing our teachers to set up for the day and be ready to greet and settle the children. We kindly request that you do not drop off your child/ren before this time.
At Adelaide, we embrace the values of whanaungatanga, which means fostering positive and respectful connections between children, educators, families, and the community. We believe in incorporating te reo Māori and tikanga Māori into our daily activities, as we are committed to Te Tiriti o Waitangi. Celebrating diversity and nurturing relationships through manaakitanga is at the core of our philosophy.
Our centre's history is rooted in the dedication of a group of motivated parents and former primary teachers. Through their efforts, Adelaide was established in June 1973 and has since become one of the oldest centres of its kind in Wellington. We are grateful for the support received from friends, local businesses, and government subsidies, which allowed us to purchase our current premises on 28 Colombo Street.
At Adelaide, our teachers not only possess excellent teaching skills but also have a sense of fun and a deep respect for Te Tiriti o Waitangi. They celebrate and appreciate diversity and understand the importance of forming warm, reciprocal, and respectful relationships with each other, the children, and their families.
