Newtown Kindergarten

Welcome to Newtown Kindergarten, located at 9 Hospital Road in Wellington, New Zealand. At our establishment, we offer your family a wonderful warm learning experience that is sure to leave a lasting impression. Our kindergarten is conveniently situated just off Adelaide Road, near the hospital, making it easily accessible for families in the area.

Our kindergarten is large and filled with natural light, creating a welcoming and vibrant atmosphere for children to thrive in. We pride ourselves on our spacious outdoor area, where children can engage in a variety of activities that promote physical development and exploration. From gardening and composting to tree-climbing and swinging, there is no shortage of play opportunities in our outdoor space. We also have a physical challenge course and an amazing fort that will surely capture the imagination of our young learners.

Inside our kindergarten, we have carefully designed areas that cater to different types of play and learning. There are quiet corners for activities such as reading and puzzles, as well as a small room dedicated to family and dramatic play. We also provide spaces for exploring literacy, numeracy, construction, music, and movement. Additionally, we offer a range of art experiences to encourage creativity and self-expression.

At Newtown Kindergarten, we are proud to incorporate aspects of Te Ao Māori and Te Reo Māori (the Māori world view and the Māori language) into our early childhood curriculum, Te Whāriki. This bicultural approach ensures that children gain a deeper understanding and appreciation for Māori culture and language.

We strongly believe in empowering children to take responsibility for their own learning. Through our carefully crafted curriculum, children develop important skills in relationships, problem-solving, cooperation, and qualities such as curiosity, perseverance, concentration, empathy, courage, and trust.

Our team consists of five qualified registered teachers, ranging from recent graduates to those with extensive experience in early childhood education. We also have a part-time administrative support person who ensures the smooth running of our institution.

Children typically start attending our kindergarten around the age of three and most attend for three days a week. However, we do offer the flexibility for children to attend up to five days a week by arrangement. It's important to note that we are open for 48 weeks of the year, providing consistent and reliable care for your child.
