Waitohi Kindergarten

Welcome to Waitohi Kindergarten, located in the vibrant community hub of Johnsonville, Wellington. Situated right next to the library, our kindergarten offers a unique learning environment for children over two years old. As regular library visitors, we actively participate in story times and Te Reo sessions, enriching our educational experience.

At Waitohi Kindergarten, we prioritize creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere, where families are valued as partners in their child's education. We encourage open communication and invite you to spend time talking to our dedicated teachers, fostering a sense of belonging within our close-knit community.

We hold deep respect for the bicultural heritage of Aotearoa, embracing the principles of the Treaty of Waitangi, te reo Māori, and tikanga Māori. Our families come from diverse ethnic and religious backgrounds, bringing various languages into our kindergarten. We celebrate this diversity by acknowledging different cultures and joyfully partaking in cultural festivals, uniting us through the shared experience of food and traditions.

Exploring our local community is an integral part of our curriculum. We frequently embark on walks, visiting the fire station, police station, and other nearby facilities. Additionally, we maintain strong connections with local schools, ensuring a smooth transition for our children as they embark on their educational journey.

Our bicultural curriculum, Te Whāriki, is at the heart of our approach. It enables children to grow as competent and confident learners, recognizing their individual strengths and interests. We empower children by providing them with choices, encouraging independent thinking and fostering a sense of responsibility towards the natural world. By nurturing the mana (prestige) of each child, we promote social competency and make learning a joyful and engaging experience.
