Welcome to The Dwellington, a premier establishment located in the heart of Wellington, New Zealand. Established in 2013, our aim is to elevate the standard of backpacker hostels in the capital city and provide weary travelers with a comfortable and stylish home away from home at incredibly affordable rates.
At The Dwellington, we understand the importance of creating a relaxed atmosphere and offering long-missed home comforts. Our socially designed kitchen and dining area, along with an awesome barbecue deck, tennis and squash courts, two living rooms, and a state-of-the-art cinema room, ensure that our guests have access to a range of amenities that will make their stay truly memorable.
Our rooms are designed to cater to any budget, with comfy queen-sized beds in each private room and custom-made timber bunks in our dorms. Luxurious mattresses and fresh linen bedding are provided, and all rooms are light and spacious, offering stunning views over Thorndon.
We pride ourselves on providing excellent service and convenience. Free and unlimited high-speed fiber WIFI is available throughout the hostel, and our friendly staff are happy to assist with any printing, scanning, or bookings you may need to make. Each bed comes with a super thick duvet, two pillows, and a heater for those colder nights. Towels and extra blankets are also available upon request.
For guests arriving or departing via ferry, we offer free drop-offs to the nearby terminals. We have an exclusive deal with Bluebridge, our preferred ferry company, so be sure to inquire about this special offer.
Our chef-style kitchen is equipped with everything you need to prepare a delicious meal, and guests can also enjoy free tea, coffee, and hot chocolate throughout the day. The largest supermarket in Wellington is conveniently located across the street for all your food requirements. Our staff are more than happy to recommend their favorite bars and restaurants in the area.
Start your day off right with our complimentary breakfast, served from 7am to 10am. We offer a fine selection of cereals and toast, along with a variety of spreads. And for coffee lovers, we have plenty of freshly roasted Havana Coffee Works coffee to get your day started on the right foot.

"Yes you have to walk up hills to get to the hostel but believe me, it’s worth it. They have breakfast included. I’ve never seen so many offered for breakfast in a hostel. Also there is free coffee, tea and HOT CHOCOLATE!! How awesome! The hostel is beautiful, well decorated. The bathroom and showers were clean. The even offer facecloth!! The kitchen is well equipped. The have tones of different spices. The only negative thing I can say is : The cooking pans were really bad. Everything sticked to it, so it was hard to wash. But other than that, I loved everything about the dwellington!"
"Decided to stay here the night before my ferry. Good location to the ports, a fair amount of parking on the street and a few out front of the hostel. If you're coming to just stay the night I'd recommend trying to park after 6pm as everything on the streets we'll be free."
"Fantastic hostel. Would highly recommend. We stayed with kids aged 7 and 10 in a private family room with shared bathroom. The room was clean and light. This was our first time staying in a youth hostel and we have since realised it sets the bar very high and is one of the best out there. The kitchen is very well equipped and clean. The lounge is a little tired but comfortable and homely. The cinema room is an amazing bonus! The hostel felt clean, safe and welcoming. Good job Dwellington!"
"Great stay! The hostel is wonderful and beautiful set up. The shared bathrooms were very clean, and the shared kitchen and yard were a great hang out area. The walls were very thin and all the doors slam closed which made for a long night. Parking is either just in front or just around the corner of the street for cheap. They also had a breakfast with great options! Staff were friendly and willing to help if we had any issues!"
