"I stupidly got to the ferry depot a day early. Because I had no plan, I trundled into the closest hostel I could find. I explained my situation to the receptionist and he was really helpful. He booked me into a room which was at a very fair price. He even let me go up a little early as I was so tired. I later walked into the dining hall and spoke to a member of staff. They said I was too early for breakfast, but I could wait for 10 minuets until the kitchens had opened. I sat at a table that was closest to the window. Soon after, an older man with a French accent walked up to me. He said ‘why are you here? Did you not see the sign?’ A little taken aback by his rudeness, I said a staff member said I could sit and wait for the ten minuets. He then proceeded to say ‘how many of you are there?’ I said it was just me, and he said ‘well why are you sitting on a table of 7? Go and sit at a table of two’ I could not believe the way this man was speaking to me. The table was not reserved and it was situated by a window. However, in my dumbstruck state I complied. I moved to the darker small table. The entire time I ate my breakfast not single other guest came into the room, let alone a party of 7. I felt very uncomfortable and confused as to why I was being treated so appallingly. I’m giving 2 stars because the receptionist was so helpful, but because I was being treated like a naughty child, I cannot give it anymore. Imagine how this man must speak to his colleagues if that’s how he treats the paying customers!"
"Under new ownership and you can see the work they are doing. Great location for events at the cake tin and town. Need more people on the desk at busy times but that's easy to solve. Rooms Great deal and perfect for a short stay in the city."
"Don’t stay here if you can. The person checking us in was immediately rude. When I asked for towels for a 6 person room, he gave me 2 towels only. Then when my friend went down to see if we could get more, he gave her 6! Then, the rooms are disgusting! The carpet looks dirty, the shower is disgusting, and the mattresses are terrible. The mattresses are very thin, and the spring below gave all of us terrible back pain. The beds are also very creaky so any movement is very loud. The shower temperature is either steaming hot or freezing cold, and the pressure sucks. The toilet is also partially in front of a wall so you have to turn your body to sit on it properly. Like in other reviews, the place is also very run down and unkept. The community room smells disgusting and the couches are so gross you can’t even sit on them. This place is where you would film a haunted movie. This place was not mine to choose as it was part of a school trip, so if you have the choice, don’t stay here! The only good thing about this place is that it has a nice location. I have no clue how the ratings are above 3 stars."
"Highly questioning the personal hygiene of people who have reviewed this place more than 1 star. Hands down the most dirty and depressing place me and my friends have ever stayed in. There was mouldy food and flies in the kitchen and the whole place had a horrible smell, the carpets and sheets had stains. Overall there was a very weird atmosphere and doesn’t feel safe. Very cheap but apart from good location it’s really really not worth the discomfort - Just don’t go here."
