Ballarat Tramway Museum
About the Business
Welcome to the Ballarat Tramway Museum, located at Lake Wendouree on Wendouree Parade. As an establishment, museum, and point of interest, we are proud to be a popular tourist attraction in Australia.
At our interactive museum, visitors have the unique opportunity to explore and learn about Ballarat's tramway heritage. Step back in time as you discover our collection of 100 year old trams, which have been meticulously preserved since 1971.
But the experience doesn't stop there. On weekends, Tuesdays, public holidays, and Thursdays during the Victorian School holidays, you can actually ride these historic trams. The tram rides begin and end at our Museum, located within the picturesque Ballarat Botanical Gardens. It's a truly immersive experience that allows you to relive the charm and nostalgia of a bygone era.
To make your visit even more convenient, we offer affordable admission prices. For just $10, adults can enjoy the museum and a tram ride, while children can join in for only $5. We also offer concession tickets for $8 and a family package for $30. Your support goes a long way in helping us continue to preserve and showcase Ballarat's tramway history.
If you're unable to visit in person but still wish to contribute, we gratefully accept tax-deductible donations. Simply click on the provided link to make a donation and support our ongoing efforts to preserve this important part of Australia's heritage.

"Well curated exhibits. It's interesting to see old photos of the trams that are actually dispayed in the museum"
"Cute little museum of vintage trams! For $10 (adults), you get access to the museum + a tram ride along Lake Wendouree. Our tram driver Chris was knowledgeable and engaging. He took us on a short ride on the Tram 28, which is over 100 years old. He made sure to keep the adults and kids entertained which was nice. Well worth every penny."
"Very clean, well maintained trams make this place well worth the visit. The staff are great too."
"The museum was great and to see the work involved in restoring the trams is amazing and a big big thank you to the volunteers to keep this going you are all amazing"
"I have been to Ballarat a few times and finally got to see the tram museum. The crew is very knowledgeable and will tell you everything you wanna know about their trams. Would rate it as one of the must-go tourist attraction spot in Ballarat. $8 entry fee including a tram ride. It only opens on Tuesdays and on the weekends though so make sure you go there at the right time. Really enjoyed my visit overall."
