Aquaculture Centre, Building R
About the Business
Welcome to the Aquaculture Centre, Building R, located in the beautiful city of Launceston, Tasmania. As an establishment and point of interest, we offer much more than just studying. Our institution is dedicated to providing opportunities for students to connect with new people through events, sports, volunteering, and more.
At the Aquaculture Centre, we take pride in our research excellence, which not only benefits Tasmania but also has a global impact. We believe in forming deep connections, not only within our university community but also with local industries, schools, and everyone who calls our island home.
One of our major achievements is being ranked #1 on climate action for universities internationally. For two consecutive years, we have been recognized as the world leader in taking climate action, with the prestigious Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings rating us number one in climate action globally for 2022 and 2023.
Located near the stunning Blue Lakes, our institution offers a unique opportunity to explore what lies beneath the sparkling waters. These lakes were once open-cut mine pits targeted for tin, and studying here allows you to delve into the secrets of this fascinating environment.
We offer a degree that provides a global perspective on the big issues. Students like Gemma Rushton, who took a 10-year gap before deciding to study a Bachelor of Natural Environment and Wilderness, can attest to the incredible experiences and knowledge gained in one of the world's most remarkable environments.
Tasmania, known for its natural beauty, has a way of turning everyone into an outdoors person. Upadhya Anjalie Balachandra, who moved here for university, discovered her love for surfing and appreciates the diverse range of interests that Tasmania caters to.
As the only university in the state, we have unrivaled industry access and opportunities, thanks to Tasmania's renewable energy and pioneering hydroelectricity initiatives. Our students, like Bunfu Yu, who graduated with a Master of Planning and won a national award, benefit from these industry connections.
We are on a mission to reimagine education at our campuses, with a focus on providing a good education to as many Tasmanians as possible. Our ongoing transformation aims to strengthen and future-proof our ability to achieve this goal.
Join us for exciting events and lectures, such as the Tasmanian Australian of the Year discussing the opportunities and challenges facing our communities or the Plimsoll Lecture by Dr. Sean Turnell, an Australian economist and political prisoner.
Explore our campuses and get a taste of university life. Hear about our courses, pathways, and scholarships directly from our students and teaching staff. Registrations are now open for events in Sydney, Hobart, and Launceston, so let us know you're coming, and we'll keep you updated.
We are also proud to announce that four of our early-career researchers have been awarded a significant amount of funding in the Discovery Early Career Researcher Awards (DECRAs), funded by the Australian Research Council. This support enables them to pursue groundbreaking research.
Our commitment to music education is showcased through masterclasses with internationally renowned musicians, such as Stefan Dohr from the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, who recently conducted a class with our music students.
Recognizing the importance of climate change education, we actively incorporate it into schooling. The inclusion of environmental topics in international testing for 15-year-olds is a testament to the significance of this issue.
We understand the challenges of juggling different passions and pursuits. Jay Hennicke, who successfully balanced being a pro freestyle footballer, childcare worker, law student, and art curator, recently graduated from our Bachelor of Laws program.
Lastly, we celebrate the achievements of our talented students, such as Ossa Music Prize-winning pianist Sarah Chick, who will be embarking on a statewide tour highlighting the work of women composers.
Join us at the Aquaculture Centre, Building R, and be a part of our transformative educational journey. Together, we are reimagining education and creating a better future for Tasmania and beyond.
