About the Business
Welcome to Russell Island Op Shop, located in Queensland's Redland City. As part of Bay Islands Community Services Inc (BICSI), our institution has been serving the islands of Russell, Macleay, Lamb, and Karragarra since 1994. We are a not-for-profit and registered charitable organization, dedicated to providing a range of services to our community.
At Russell Island Op Shop, we offer more than just a clothing store. Our establishment is a point of interest and a store that aims to give back to the community. With 112 dedicated volunteers and our Acting Manager, Doris Etheve-Birnie, we strive to make a difference in the lives of island residents.
In addition to our op shop, we have a coffee corner and a function room where various activities are held weekly. We also have consult rooms available for different consultants. Our Russell Island center is home to our head office, where you can find assistance and information about our services.
BICSI as a whole provides a wide range of services and facilities to the islands. On Macleay Island, you can find the Australian Services Agency, an op shop, a cafe, and a plant nursery. The Macleay Island center also houses the Centrelink Agency, where our fully trained volunteers can assist you with your Centrelink and Medicare needs.
As a not-for-profit organization, our funding comes from our op shops, government departments, and grants. The money we collect is reinvested back into the island communities through various means. We provide emergency relief, organize community events, offer support to seniors, and distribute Christmas food hampers. We also provide free administration and insurance for auspiced groups, as well as facilities for groups and other services to hold their activities.
The Southern Moreton Bay Islands, including Russell, Macleay, Lamb, and Karragarra, are located in Moreton Bay off Brisbane, Queensland. Access to the islands is available through Translink passenger ferry services and Stradbroke Ferries (Sealink) vehicular barges. The islands have all the necessary services and amenities, including supermarkets, medical centers, schools, libraries, fuel stations, cafes, restaurants, and even a veterinary service.
At Russell Island Op Shop, we are committed to meeting the needs of our community. Whether it's emergency assistance, office services, community events, or simply a place to shop, we are here to serve you. Visit us today and become part of the BICSI family, where community support and goodwill are at the heart of everything we do.
