"You are looking at under qualified staff, the type that ended up in ED due to inability to pass fellowship exams. You will still need to fight to get help instead of being charged $280 just for walking in, you can't use your insurance for that as they don't admit you, it's just acute care. Then the blood tests come, even though they will discharge you before the results are ready - I guess they either own the pathology or are in a partnership with them. All of this while the QLD Government have been running a virtual ED in Brisbane, because so many ED presentations don't actually require any physical examinations or tests but prescriptions, especially in the place like Townsville where GPs are booked out and the public hospital is severely incompetent - often the same staff are employed at both, just part timing... On top of it, they don't have pharmacy on site, which means that if you are recommended to take antibiotics or anything other to Panadol and it's weekend and a night time, you won't get it in Townsville. No pharmacy is open 24/7 locally. I guess think twice if you really need to spend that $280 for half proper intervention."

"Here are some interactions between my 78 years husband and the emergency staff. Patient says I really have difficulty walking due to back pain. Emergency staff answer. You just walked normally to the toilet . Patient. I have difficulty passing urine. Could it be the prostate. ED staff answer. We don't do prostate here but you must go and see your GP. Patient l am feeling a bit weak and hungry is it ok to order a cuppa . Answer. You are about to be discharged in a few minutes. You can have your cuppa after that."

"Having attended the Mater ED as a patient myself and with my children I cannot recommend this service highly enough. The staff are caring, kind, efficient, thorough and considerate. The value for money for a service such as this is incomparable as so fast, efficient and no time spent waiting for referrals (like at the GP). I have seen multiple Doctor’s in the ED and all have been wonderful to deal with, and always leave feeling wholly satisfied with treatment and care plans. The staff are always so friendly, with excellent communication and follow up phone calls to check progress. Such a great service!"
