"It was with a little trepidation that we booked a table at Hanok. The reviews are very mixed for this Korean style BBQ experience; it seems people either love it or hate it. We arrived on a Friday night to a sparsely filled dining room. Seated at our table the first thing you notice is that the floor is slippery. Not from tiles but from oil that has gathered on the ground and not been properly cleaned. The tables and remaining decor are ok, soft lighting and a round fire pit inside square laminex tables. There is an exhaust fan above each fire pit that looks like an alien medical device which is lowered above your hot coals to capture the smoke made by the cooking process. We ordered a few drinks and were served by the wonderful Axel. This was probably the most attentive service we received the whole night as Axel must have finished their shift and we were pretty much left without water being refilled (without going up and asking) and no checks on food quality or, well, anything really. We had a table of six adults so decided to ordered the large platter of various meats. It comes in at about $250 so it’s not cheap. We also ordered a plate of veggies as an addition. To be honest maybe the concept isn’t for me. Cooking your own meat at the table felt like we were paying to do the work and the coals were barely hot enough to get a good level of heat to make cooking fun. It was just a bit laborious. The table is also filled with lots of little bowls with sauces and garnishes. This seems nice but means there isn’t much room for the platter of meats. The quality of the meats was pretty average and some of the combinations on the platter a bit weird. I’m sure they have fried chicken in Korea but served with wedges was a bit odd? Also the lettuce leaves in the black sesame salad we’re off colour where they had been cut, not a great sign for freshness. The good things… the seafood pancake was really nice. Even the non sea foodies liked it. To sum everything up it was meh. Would I go again? Probably not."

"Where do I start, we went there for lunch and it was absolutely amazing, the food was really tasty, the food was really fresh and the service was absolutely first class, they even explained to us how to do the food eating Korean style and how they put their different foods together and talk about an absolutely explosive flavour taste, one of the best meals I’ve ever had and I will definitely be back, I can’t rave enough about these guys if there was 10 stars I would give them 10 stars!!! And finally the pricing was really reasonable and the $89 couples plate was great value and we were both nice and full when we finished it, absolutely worth a visit, one of the most tasty meals I’ve ever had!
