"We’re in 2023 and discrimination is still alive, a trip to Bunnings in Springfield proved just this. My mother and I spent over $300 here and was rudely greeted and racially profiled by Helen at the self-checkout who breathed down our necks as we scanned our items. There was another (white) family with a trolley full, however she gave them no mind while they scanned and when they were done she easily scanned their receipt and out they walked. Our experience as Indigenous people was very different. As we scanned our items, she pointed at several of the large items in our cart asking if we’d scanned them, and how much they were so she could check the screen. She then decided to move items in our trolley to make sure there wasn’t anything underneath the dog bed as we scanned the last of our items. Paid and printed the receipt, and let her scan she took the receipt from us and meticulously looked through checking each item on her scanner and what was in our trolley. Never have I experienced such terrible blatant discrimination at a Bunnings before. Bunnings, do better. Helen, do better."
