Welcome to Local Connections, a dynamic institution located at Callaghan, University Drive, 130 in Australia. As a multi-faceted establishment, we proudly serve as a café, restaurant, meal takeaway, and point of interest all in one.

At Local Connections, we strive to create a unique and memorable experience for our guests. Our founder, Lisa McGuigan, is a fourth-generation winemaker who brings her passion for wine, fashion, music, art, and her favorite color black to every aspect of our institution. A night with Lisa is not just about indulging in amazing wines and food; it's about immersing yourself in the joy and vibrancy she exudes.

Our vision at Local Connections is to celebrate the vibrant cuisine of Newcastle and the Hunter region. We source our ingredients from local Hunter Region suppliers, ensuring that each dish we create is made with fresh, colorful, and high-quality produce. By connecting food lovers with the farmers and suppliers who lovingly tend to these ingredients, we aim to create a farm-to-table experience that is both delicious and sustainable.

In addition to our commitment to local cuisine, Local Connections also serves as a bridge between the University of Newcastle and the community. Our team of food and beverage experts, as well as kitchen attendants, includes students from the University. By providing them with valuable hands-on experience, we contribute to their growth and strengthen the connection between the University and the local community.

Conveniently located on the Callaghan Campus in the Shortland Building, next to the Brennan Room (US209), our restaurant offers a one-of-a-kind dining experience in the heart of the campus. Parking is available in Carpark 5 next to the Shortland Building (US) and along Shortland Road.

In addition to our dining offerings, Local Connections also hosts various events and workshops. Join our head chef, Alex Hunter, and learn how to cook on a budget, discovering new and affordable culinary delights.

As an institution, we acknowledge and respect the traditional custodians of the lands within our footprint areas, including the Awabakal, Darkinjung, Biripai, Worimi, Wonnarua, and Eora Nations. We pay homage to the wisdom of our Elders, both past and present.
