Banh Mi House
About the Business
Welcome to Banh Mi House, located at 51 Hibberson Street in Gungahlin, Australia. As an establishment, food, point of interest, and restaurant all in one, we offer a delightful experience of Vietnamese street food. Our menu features a variety of authentic dishes such as Pork Rolls, Rice Paper Rolls, and fresh fruit shakes.
The name "Banh Mi" originates from the Vietnamese word for bread. During the colonial period in Vietnam, the French introduced the baguette to the country. In Vietnamese cuisine, the bread commonly used is a single-serving baguette that is airier and has a thinner crust compared to its Western counterpart. What sets it apart is that it is made with a combination of rice flour and wheat flour.
One of our specialties is the Banh Mi/Saigon sandwich, which originated on the streets of Saigon. This French-Vietnamese hybrid consists of an airy baguette filled with sour pickled daikon and carrot, crisp cilantro, spicy chilis, and a refreshing sliver of cucumber. You can choose from a variety of protein options, ranging from sweet minced pork to fatty pate to sardines.
Another popular dish on our menu is the Rice Paper Rolls. These rolls are traditionally made with pork, prawn, vegetables, rice vermicelli, and other ingredients wrapped in Vietnamese bánh tráng, also known as rice paper. Some believe that Vietnamese summer rolls have Chinese origins, as they share similarities in form with Chinese spring rolls, biscuit rolls, and egg rolls. However, the unique combination of ingredients and the fact that they are served fresh, not fried, distinguish them as a Vietnamese creation.
At Banh Mi House, you can indulge in these delectable Vietnamese street food classics. Our dishes are served at room temperature or cooled, allowing you to savor the freshness and vibrant flavors. Join us for an authentic culinary experience that will transport you to the streets of Saigon.

"Great shopfront for some quick lunch on the go. Friendly staff and fresh food csnt recommend enough."
"Great ice coffee but these folks are incredibly slow which can be forgiven but they forgot my order which also can be forgiven if they are busy but they weren't. I was the only customer there when I ordered, then a few came ordered and left then one of the staff noticed me waiting and panicked, made that ice coffee in 30 seconds. Could have done than when I ordered it 15 minutes earlier.."
"Just bought taro bubble tea from them .. I think it’s the worst tea I ever had.. the bubbles were very chewy kind of very old .. hoping the real tea shops will open sooon"
"Nice place to have a quick bite. Food prepared quickly with smiles and friendly service. Bun’ cha was nice, the accompanying nuoc mam was spot on. Rice paper rolls could use a bit more green veggies to add that crunchy texture. Bánh mì had all the yummy fillings but a bit more seasoning would take it to the next level. A few tables and chairs available on the food path if you want to sit down and enjoy your meal. Recommended."
