About the Business
Welcome to Rose Cottage, one of the oldest and most iconic hospitality venues in Canberra. Located at Gilmore, Isabella Drive, 1, Rose Cottage has a rich and complex history dating back to the 1870s. Originally part of the Tuggeranong Station, it was later sold to Richard Harris in 1875. The first cottages built by Harris still stand today, almost 150 years later.
Throughout its long history, Rose Cottage has transformed from a sheep paddock to a bus stopover, gathering character and charm with each passing owner. Formerly known as Sweet Hills Estate, the origin of its current name remains a subject of speculation. Some believe it was named after the rose garden cultivated by Harris's wife Margaret, while others suggest it was named after an early occupant, a local schoolteacher named Miss Rose.
At Rose Cottage, we pride ourselves on offering honest and hearty pub food and drinks. Our menu is constantly evolving, ensuring a delicious range of meals for the whole family. Whether you prefer classic favorites or want to explore our specials menu for something different, we have something to satisfy every palate. From fantastic pizzas to kid-friendly options, there is a dish for everyone at Rose Cottage.
In addition to our delectable food and drinks, we offer function spaces for any occasion. 'The Glasshouse' function room can accommodate 60 to 80 people with its own private bar, bar attendant, and bathrooms. Alternatively, 'The Shed' function room provides seating for up to 100 people, along with a private bar, bar attendant, and bathrooms.
Join us at Rose Cottage to experience authentic pub food, refreshing drinks, live entertainment, and a piece of Canberra's history. Make your booking today by calling 6260 1314.

"I didn't go into the main part of Rose Cottage. I attended a function in a private room. I was actually surprised at how nice it was. The open fireplace was fantastic. I did love attending the event there. Unfortunately, a lot of bogans tend to frequent Rose Cottage—that’s why I tend to stay clear. But if you are attending a private function, you should enjoy it—if you don’t mind the occasional interruption by some little bloke on a loud motorcycle."
"Lovely spot for a casual get together with friends and family. There is outdoor and indoor seating, with tvs situated around the place so you can watch live sport. Amazing schnitzels! I haven’t tried the other food, because I tend to always order their schnitzels - but I’m sure it’s great! Also a good spot to host celebrations."
"I was very impressed with the layout of the venue. Very nice social areas and warm fires for the colder months. I enjoyed my visit."
"Hidden gem, sharp left turn just after the start of Isabella Drive. A series of heritage buildings with several bar and eating areas, including extensive beer gardens. Pub food, just what was needed on a cold winters day."
"Great pub, loads of outdoor space, nice relaxed family friendly lunch. Has lots of screens so probably a good place to watch the footie as well"
