"Well that was a surprise. Have not been to this restaurant for about 15 years. Moved into Hahndorf recently and got home late from work. Orders sweet and sour prawns. All prawns, fresh and tasty along with great fried rice. Amazing, will definitely go again."
"I felt really lucky to get lunch in a Chinese restaurant here. It's a cold, miserable rainy Saturday, wet roads outside. When I walked in, they are just opened: fire is lit, hot tea is served, love the spicy chicken stirfry, and the shrimp cracker. The owners are nice and friendly, the food is awesome, I am walking out with a big smile on my face. The Gourmet house is about 10m from the main Hahndorf street. There are plenty of parking at the back, but they only open for lunch at the weekend and dinners."
"Absolutely love this place. Best Chinese food in South Australia in my opinion. Always delicious, great menu and a great atmosphere. Family loves to go there for special occasions despite the fact it's a good distance away. Update. Hadn't been here for 5 years, the last time my dad came over from England. Decided to go back as a commemoration for him after he passed away last boxing day. The food as always never disappoints. So tasty. Great range of dishes for everyone. The service was polite, friendly and helpful and the food came out in good time. I would recommend this place to anyone who likes Chinese food."
"Extremely disappointing. The omelette was exceptionally salty and rather oily. There were only around 4 or maybe 5 prawns, and you had to use a knife to cut the egg! Heaps of carrot, a lot of cabbage, some spinach, and very little of anything else."
"This is a followup from my previous review circa December 2020. Since then we have been again in 2021 and again tonight in 2022. We were originally nervous about returning to Gourmet House after reading some recent negative reviews. We decided to go regardless and we were not disappointed. The food was excellent, staff were professional and food was prompt. We were worried about waiting times after reading the previous reviews, but they were very fair (see below) -Times taken since ordering- Entree chicken spring rolls - 7m 25s Fried rice - 12m 13s Mongolian beef - 14m 52s Lemon chicken 15m 33s As you can see, about 15 minutes after walking in, we were already enjoying all of the food we ordered. This time is even faster than some supposed "fast food" experiences I have had in the past. On the way in we had a pleasent conversation about the traffic with the staff. They gave us the option to pick our seat as there were several vacant tables. But I dont know why the reasturant wasnt packed after we left our last glowing review. We picked the window seat. The table service was prompt and professional. It was accompanied by delectible complimentary prawn chips. These looked so good that I couldnt resist eating them despite the fact that I am allergic to prawns. I was not disappointed. These prawn chips were so tasty that they were worth having the allergic reaction later on. I tried dipping a prawn chip in the spring roll dipping sauce and was very pleased with the taste. I would recommend you do the same when you go, but you will need to get your own prawn chips and sauce as we ate all of ours. The main courses were of course the main attraction. The mongolian beef had us sizzling to our hearts content. The lemon chicken was easy to chew, which is why we left this review. I was relieved that the lemon chicken wasnt sour like a normal lemon, since I was worried it would be sour like a normal lemon. The chair upgrades and dividers were a nice touch. The vibe increased by at least 15% due to these enhancements. I believe they were introduced some time between 2021 and 2022 given we last attended in 2021. The gourmet house will always hold a special place in our hearts and it was so meaningful that me and my partner included a section about it in our original song that we've written about the dorf. We hope to have the song completed by mid 2025 so please watch this space for updates. We will definitely be back again, probably next time we are in hahndorf and feel like eating at Gourmet House. - Jake"
