Sabella Vineyards is deeply rooted in the rich history and traditions of Italy. Giuseppe (Joe) Petrucci, the founder, was born in the Molise region and comes from a long line of farmers. In the 1960s, his father migrated to Australia, and the rest of the family followed in 1966. In 1976, Joe and his wife Rosa, along with their children, settled in McLaren Vale and purchased their first vineyard in McMurtrie Road. Over the years, their vineyards have grown from 10 hectares to an impressive 44 hectares, supplying grapes to various wineries.

In 1999, the Petrucci family made the decision to keep some of their grapes for their own label, Sabella. The name Sabella is derived from a pseudonym given to the Petrucci name six generations ago. The quality of their wines was recognized when their 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon won the prestigious George Mackey Award in 2009 for the best wine exported from Australia. Sabella wines can now be found in Singapore, Malaysia, Japan, Hong Kong, China, and New Zealand.
