Big Bubble was founded in 1981 by Peter Howard, a chemical engineer with a passion for creating sustainable cleaning products. After years of working in the chemical industry, Peter became disheartened by the excessive waste generated by traditional cleaning agents and their packaging. Determined to make a difference, he established Midland Chemicals, a chemical factory designed to minimize pollutants and waste during the manufacturing process.
Peter's commitment to environmentally friendly practices didn't stop there. He formulated a range of cleaning products that are not only effective but also cruelty-free, proudly carrying the 'Choose Cruelty Free' approval. With this success, he decided to open his first retail store, Big Bubble, in late 1981 in Midland. Today, the Midland store is still owned and operated by Peter's family, ensuring his legacy lives on.

"Well this place is a treasure, with all the random things on sale plus the economic home cleaner refills, and I also have recently discovered awesome breadmixes. So while i buy flour and hand work loaves , turns out they have have a great rye mix. Not only does it taste great but it works well in a machine breadmaker. I use breadmakers as mixers, but this time I let a standard breadmix cycle operate on rye and hey it worked well. These form well and are not too heavy. Also try Italian Herb mix. Its really tasty."

"I love big bubble. Has all your crafting, baking, soap making, brewing and distilling needs. Absolutely fantastic shop. Also sells chemicals and detergents in large quantities. If you have any enquiries don't be afraid to ask the friendly staff about anything. I bought some fabric to make my garter for my wedding last year and the women were so helpful helping me choose fabric and elastic."
