About the Business
Welcome to Dutch Coffee Lab, located at 255 Saint Vincent Street, Port Adelaide, Australia. As a café and food establishment, we are not just your ordinary coffee shop. We are a point of interest, a store, and a place where the rich history of coffee and the Dutch culture come together.
Coffee has a fascinating history with the Dutch that dates back hundreds of years. It was in 1615 when coffee first arrived in Europe, and the Dutch traders, known for their shrewdness, were not content with a coffee monopoly that they were not benefiting from. This led to the sneaky actions of Dutchman Peter van den Broecke, who smuggled coffee seedlings into Holland in 1616.
Although the Dutch attempted to cultivate coffee in Holland, their efforts were unsuccessful. However, in 1658, they took their precious seedlings to Ceylon and Java, where coffee cultivation flourished. Java soon became the primary supplier of coffee to Europe, marking the true beginning of the Dutch coffee trade.
While the actions of the Dutch East India Company (VOC) are now confined to the pages of history, here at Dutch Coffee Lab, we continue to carry on the passion for the coffee experience that the Dutch smugglers had. Led by Tom and our dedicated crew, we are proud to offer you the subtle temptations of coffee, allowing you to savor, enhance, and celebrate this liquid gold.
At Dutch Coffee Lab, we invite you to indulge in the finest coffee experience. Our café is not just a place to grab a quick cup of coffee; it is a destination where you can immerse yourself in the rich history and flavors of Dutch coffee. Whether you prefer a classic espresso or a specialty brew, we are here to be your trusted supplier of liquid gold.

"I’d love to give 5 stars but I feel 4 is generous with the Dutch owners arrogance and lack of a friendly demeanour. Fits the arrogant Dutch stereotype perfectly. Shame because I loved the cakes and coffee but feel with his less than welcoming attitude my money isn’t wanted here."
"Well decorated coffeeshop in the suburbs, serving delicious coffee and gourmet toasties. Coffee was so good my partner went back for seconds. Toasties were served with Smith chips which was a nice touch. Easy to park with lots of spaces around the area."
"Busy early morning coffee shop on the main road with seating inside. Dark roast coffee, toastie sandwiches and some sweet pastries. A nicely decorated cafe interior"
"Stopped of for a well deserved mid ride break. Authentic Dutch coffee, prepared by a real Dutchman, with all the trapings of a strong accent. Now it should be said that for some Dutch people, coffee with milk, is coffee gone wrong. Be that as it may this was a great Cappuccino. Water is easily accessible at the bar to refill your water bottle. Do try the cakes, they are great! Update: popped in again with my own Dutch dependent for a mid ride brunch. Coffee on this occasion was not so strong, and not the distinctive Dutch flavour of the first visit. To accompany the coffee, I had a toasted sandwich. Upon paying, I was surprised that the default response was "will that be take away?" Rather than 'Will that be eat in or take away?", the latter acts as an encouragement to enjoy the outdoor seating. We opted to sit outside, and enjoy the respite. When the toasted sandwich arrived, it came with chips (crisps in UK speak). Whilst common in the UK, it is unusual here. My preference in either location, is not to have them, and I would have liked the sandwich alone or with air fried chips(fries)."
"Great unassuming little cafe, actually has a another room out the back plus a few tables on the footpath. Really good coffee and a good selection of tasty morning tea treats! + more substantial offerings. Prompt service from friendly staff, highly recommended"
