Perth Children's Hospital Emergency
About the Business
Welcome to Perth Children's Hospital Emergency, located at 15 Hospital Avenue in Nedlands, Australia. As an establishment dedicated to providing urgent medical care, our Emergency Department (ED) is here to assist children and adolescents who are 15 years old or under in times of accidents or injuries. Whether it's burns, broken bones, or injuries to the head, our experienced team is ready to provide the necessary medical attention.
In addition to catering to children and adolescents, young people with pre-existing chronic conditions managed at Perth Children's Hospital (PCH) may also be seen at our ED until they reach the age of 18. We understand the importance of comprehensive care and have Mental Health clinical nurse specialists who support mental health assessments for children and young people under the age of 15.
At Perth Children's Hospital Emergency, we go beyond immediate care by actively participating in multi-centre research studies. Collaborating with both nursing and medical staff, including the renowned Paediatric Research in Emergency Departments International Collaborative (PREDICT), we contribute to advancing medical knowledge and improving patient outcomes. Our commitment to research is demonstrated through publications and conference presentations, showcasing our staff's involvement in internationally recognized research.
We also prioritize the professional development of our staff. We support further research and role development training, including Master of Nursing studies, Advanced Trainee, and Consultant training. Registrars in our ED are encouraged and supported to conduct audits during their term, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
To enhance our research efforts, we have established relationships with external parties such as KidSafe WA, Telethon Kids Institute, Vaccine Trials Group, and the WA State Trauma Registry Database. These collaborations contribute to the wealth of knowledge within our department and help us provide the best possible care to our patients.
When visiting our ED, you can take advantage of our emergency set-down area conveniently located off Hospital Avenue near the main entrance. For more information on traveling to Perth Children's Hospital, please refer to our dedicated webpage.

"The nurse Kiarn was the worst ever I met. She was so unkind to the parents and it makes me feel uncomfortable. Cannot find any kindness or smile. She managed the order for seeing doctor not properly so that many people couldn’t see doctor and had to leave Seems like she doesn’t care about the children. Cannot believe her behavior and waited 7 hours and I left like others"
"My daughter had 102 deg fever and shivers. When we entered emergency at 6.30 pm we were told wait time is 5hrs, we understood as there were so many kids and parents waiting and decided to wait for our turn to see doctor as my daughter was getting on and off fever. On top of it she had cold, cough and conjunctivitis. When it was 12.45 am (after 6 hrs of wait time) To our shock we were told to wait for another 6hrs to see the doctor in the morning or nurses said you can go home. As a parent that is the last thing I want to hear after waiting for 6 hrs. Is this the way kids with illness treated in hospitals?? Is this the right thing?? If my daughter is not in priority triage and they deem it as not an emergency they could have told us after couple of hours that it’s not an emergency, we can consult a GP next day. I am not here to blame the nurse or doctor, but if they are overworked and reached the breaking point, then govt should increase the staff in Emergency Department. After so much of drama and questioning the triage nurse on the wait time communicated and other details and actual time taken and asking them to do the right thing, my daughter was seen by a doctor. Finally !!! We were out after 8hrs (if I had kept quite maybe we would have spent another 6hrs or more in so called Perths Children Hospital Emergency department to see the doctor) Is this how it works!! Maybe it is!! Wish I could give some negative rating here (let’s give one star as my daughter finally got a chance to consult with a doctor) and pray that we never want to be in a situation to visit this hospital for consultation."
"Our sick 9 month old has been waiting more than 3 hours to be seen. Absolutely shocking for a hospital in Australia! How is this lack of service allowed?"
"It’s been 3 hours still no doctor coming to check my child. It’s seems like they are prioritising the whites people than the Asian and Indian one. This is our second time coming back the first one we went home because of the waiting time is too long. What happened to the hospital system now. Nurses doesn’t care he brought us in the room without putting down the hospital bed as it was too high for my 5 years old to climb up in the bed and lie down. Luckily the others nurse came in and help us pull the bed down and asked me which nurse brought us in! He said it’s “ it’s too dodgy” Seems like no hope in the hospital system anymore."
"I don’t believe that an emergency department asks us to wait for more than 3hours with a sick baby in our arms. I was there at 10:30pm and waited untill 1am but how long are the gonna test mums strength. My husband was not allowed inside because of covid protocols. I could have waited there but my sick baby was getting cranky waiting for that long. I could see other mums facing the same problem. We are just provided with a chair to sit for more than 3 hours…seriously!!! Its my mistake that I thought ED would provide better health care than gp. Hiwever, here we are tired at home without meeting the doctor and my baby is still sick but getting a good rest. Ofcourse there are nurses around but we can’t expect them to help them with our baby since they dnt allow the fathers. Or should we?? I even saw some mother’s returning. And i know I will be charged of not meeting the doctor. Correct me if I am wrong. If they deem that my baby was not that serious, they could at least give us an option."
