"Below are the contents of a formal complaint email that I sent last month. Further down - I provide outcomes of items I asked for within the complaint. If you are looking for a Dr who cares, Dr Stamatiou is not an appropriate choice. Our initial appointment with Dr Stamatiou at City Fertility in Newstead, Queensland was on the 12th of October 2022. I specifically asked to be the first appointment in the book because my husband just started a new job and could not be late to work. The doctor arrived 40 minutes later and barely apologised. He then proceeded, very coldly, to take our medical history which left a lasting impression. We were sent off for a battery of tests and pushed to go for IVF when we went for the follow up appointment on the 31st of October. Alternative (cheaper) options were glossed over quickly. I asked a lot of questions specific to my recent menstrual cycle which were brushed off and mostly ignored - questions I still want answers to from a medical professional. I asked more questions about the IVF process as he was explaining the basics and was told that an IVF nurse would give me more information in an effort to get us out of his door as soon as possible. We returned for my "in cycle" day 8 scan on the 23rd of November 2022 where we found that I only had two viable eggs for collection so my husband and I decided that the cost of IVF was not worth it and opted to do IUI in an effort not to waste another month where we could possibly not conceive. The procedure was performed by Dr Stamatiou the following day. I was given a blood test form and told to go for a blood test exactly two weeks from the date of the IUI procedure to determine if I am pregnant, which I went for on the 8th of December. He told us that the blood test would be a same day result and I would receive a phone call later in the afternoon. I did not receive a phone call on the 8th of December. I phoned City Fertility the very next day and was told that Dr Stamatiou was unwell but working from home and he would contact me with the results. It is now the 13th of December and I still have not received a phone call. A communication email went out a while back that he would be on leave this week so if I am lucky, I may hear what my result is next week on his return. I would like to iterate that this is an emotional and difficult position to be in as a couple who have been unsuccessfully trying to conceive. Not only does the doctor have an extremely dismissive and poor bedside manner, but giving a woman the result of her blood test (even if another doctor has to do it) within 24 hours of having it done should be an absolute minimum standard of care which he does not uphold. By raising this complaint, I want the following actions to be taken: *The result of my blood test is given to me with immediate effect. - Provided *A personal apology for being treated so poorly and dismissively from Dr Stamatiou.-Received the day I submitted this review. *A policy change or written assurance that, in the event of Dr Stamatiou being "unable" to provide blood test results to any women anxiously awaiting the result of a pregnancy test within a reasonable time frame of 24 hours, that another doctor in the practice will contact the person in question.- A policy change has been made to cater for this need and I am assured women receive their blood test results on the same day. *Provide me with all mine and my husband's health records currently held by Dr Stamatiou and City Fertility. This includes all scans, semen analysis, notes and blood test results. I will accept electronic copies or will be happy to collect physical copies directly from City Fertility. - Provided *I will be approaching another provider for a fertility consultation when I am ready and expect all of the above-mentioned records (our entire file) to be sent over to the new provider with immediate effect when asked. - This was done Although I appreciate the effort taken over the course of some time for all of my grievances to be resolved, my experience was what it was."
