Welcome to the Bioresource Processing Institute of Australia (BioPRIA), located at Alliance Lane, Clayton, Australia. BioPRIA is an establishment dedicated to creating new industries and transforming existing ones through research and innovation. Established in 1989 by the Australasian pulp and paper industry in collaboration with Monash University and with the support of the Australian Government, BioPRIA is located within the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering at Monash University.

At BioPRIA, we provide world-class technology-based research, development, and training to enable sustainable innovation for a competitive Australian bio-manufacturing industry. Our institute focuses on five main research platforms that aim to convert biomass into advanced materials, chemicals, energy, and food using sustainable processes and novel technologies. These platforms align with our strategies and reflect the combined strength of our partner organizations.

BioPRIA has established a reputation for excellence in research programs, as evidenced by grants and funding received. We are proud to have been awarded the Bioresource Advanced Manufacturing Initiative (BAMI) and Processing Advanced Lignocellulosics, which are successful Industry Transformation Research hubs (ITRH) supported by the government to promote innovation in the pulp and paper industry in Australia.

We are excited to share our latest research publications with you. Our newest paper, published in Macromolecules, validates a novel approach to graft polyacrylic acid (PAA) from cellulose nanofibers (CNFs). The study also highlights how the Ag(I) catalyst loading can modulate the degree of branching, resulting in new superabsorbent polymers with a wide range of applications. Additionally, our paper published in Waste and Biomass Valorization focuses on a recyclability study of spray-deposited cellulose nanofibril films. We have also published a paper in the Cellulose Journal, showcasing highly hydrophobic and moisture barrier nanocellulose-based films produced via spray deposition.
