About the Business
Welcome to the Monash Biomedicine Discovery Institute (BDI), located at Innovation Walk, 19 in Clayton, Australia. As an establishment and point of interest, we are at the forefront of biomedical research and innovation.
In response to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, we prioritize the health and safety of our community. We kindly request that only individuals who are well and not presenting with COVID-19 symptoms visit our campus or location. For the latest updates regarding our response to the pandemic, please refer to our website.
At the Monash BDI, we are dedicated to making groundbreaking discoveries and finding new solutions in the fight against disease. As part of the Faculty of Medicine, Nursing, and Health Sciences, we collaborate with over 700 researchers, 120 research groups, and 200 international research partners, making us one of the largest and highest quality research institutes in the southern hemisphere.
Our institute is known for its cutting-edge work in areas such as stem cells and immunology, translating laboratory discoveries into clinical treatments. We offer a unique opportunity for aspiring researchers to hone their expertise under the guidance of at least two supervisors. Join our network of over 270 PhD students across 100 labs, all focused on making novel scientific discoveries.
Our mission extends beyond the walls of our institute. We are committed to relieving the future burden of disease and tackling global health issues. Through our research efforts, we aim to address the challenges faced by humanity in the fight against disease.
If you are interested in researching, investing, studying, or partnering with us, we would love to hear from you. Feel free to reach out to our Monash BDI general enquiries team at the provided contact details.
Stay inspired by attending our informative sessions, where you can hear about the latest biomedical research from top scientists in their field. These sessions are free and open to all.
We are proud to welcome Professor Mary Herbert, an esteemed expert in reproductive biology, who has recently joined our institute as a professor. Her expertise will further enhance our research capabilities.
Congratulations to the four Monash BDI researchers who have been awarded $1.76 million under the prestigious Australian Research Council (ARC) Discovery Early Career Researcher Award (DECRA) scheme. This recognition highlights the quality and impact of our researchers' work.
In collaboration with the Faculty of Science, we recently hosted the 2023 Sprint Undergraduate Women's Development Program. This three-day event aimed to enhance the educational experience and future professional lives of female scientists, furthering our commitment to diversity and inclusivity in the field.
Our PhD students also showcase their skills and knowledge in the annual Three Minute Thesis (3MT™) competition. We are proud to announce that Monash BDI's own Lauren Alesi emerged as the winner of the 2023 University final and will represent Monash University at the Asia-Pacific Semi-Final.
In our pursuit of scientific advancements, our researchers have made a groundbreaking discovery—a novel bacterial protein that keeps human cells healthy, even under significant bacterial burden. Such findings have the potential to revolutionize the understanding and treatment of diseases.
Lastly, we would like to acknowledge and pay our respects to the Elders and Traditional Owners of the land on which our Australian campuses stand. We recognize the importance of Indigenous knowledge and culture in shaping our institution.
