Masons Falls Picnic Area
About the Business
Welcome to Masons Falls Picnic Area, a must-visit establishment and point of interest in Kinglake West, Australia. Located in the beautiful Kinglake National Park, just a short distance from Melbourne, this large, open picnic ground is the perfect destination for a day out with family and friends.
At Masons Falls Picnic Area, you'll find all the amenities you need for a memorable picnic experience. From barbecues and tables to shelters and toilets, we have everything in place to ensure your comfort and convenience.
But that's not all. This picnic area is also a gateway to the stunning natural beauty of Kinglake National Park. Embark on a variety of short walks that start right from the picnic area and explore the enchanting forest and fern gullies. For those seeking a longer adventure, you can combine some of these short walks to create a full day walk.
As you wander through the park, take your time and move quietly to increase your chances of encountering the park's diverse wildlife. Keep your eyes peeled for various species of birds, reptiles, and insects that call this park their home. Look up at the towering trees and down at the intricate lichens, ferns, and fungi near the forest floor, allowing yourself to be immersed in the therapeutic experience of "forest bathing".
One of the highlights of Masons Falls Picnic Area is the Masons Falls Walk. Follow this 700m trail to reach the waterfall lookout platform, where you can witness the mesmerizing sight of water cascading down the rock shelves into the gully below. After recent rain, the high drop waterfall becomes even more impressive.
If you're looking for a shorter stroll, the 500m Lyrebird Circuit Walk is perfect for you. This trail is specifically designed for people with limited mobility and winds its way around some of the park's oldest trees, providing a shaded and serene environment.
For those seeking a more challenging adventure, the 7.8km Running Creek Walk is a great option. As you traverse through shaded fern gullies and drier ridges, you'll witness the incredible regeneration of native bush after the devastating Black Saturday bushfires of 2009. Keep your ears open for the melodic calls of Superb Lyrebirds and keep an eye out for wallabies along the way.
While enjoying the waterfalls, it's important to note that hazards may exist due to the natural environment. Please follow our water safety advice to ensure your visit to Masons Falls is both safe and enjoyable.
We also want to emphasize that the Lyrebird Circuit Walk is specifically designed for people with limited mobility, ensuring that everyone can enjoy the beauty of this park.

"Very nice place to visit. Picnic area and toilet area looks clean and nice for family gatherings."
"The walking/hiking paths aren't overly well signed but the walk itself was filled with some amazing views and some nice spots to stop for a quick meditation or just soak it in"
"Walked the loop from Masons Falls carprk to Mt Sugarloaf. Much hill!! But very beautiful! Highly recommend."
"Truly beautiful place for a picnic. There is more than 4 free gas BBQ's all with double cooking plates so you can cook a large feed for a group without any problems. Plenty of tables & bench seats provide. Along with a few undercover areas large enough for a big gathering. Toilet facilities are provided. The area is set amongst tall gum tree's providing great shade. Plenty of car parking available. The entire picnic area is wheelchair accessible as is the toilets. Parks Victoria have truly created a magnificent setting for all to enjoy"
"A lovely spot for a picnic and leisurely stroll along a scenic trail to the waterfall viewing platform. Next to the car park are picnic tables, electric barbeques and a well maintained toilet block. Why not a full 5 stars? Simply because often the waterfall is not flowing or only has a trickle of cascading water and also because its so popular there are often lots of people milling about."
