La Luna Bistro 320 Rathdowne Street, Carlton North, Victoria 3054

"Been around for over 25 years, La Luna Bistro is an institution and I can understand why when I visited this cosy restaurant on Rathdowne St. The food was great - beef tartare, garlic butter prawns (with toasted bread to soak up all the garlic buttery goodness), duck breast, butcher’s cut (shoulder) and madelines and cheese to finish. All were consistent and nicely paced between dishes, a sign of a well-run kitchen. La Luna has such amazing staff - they feel like family. Knowledgable with the menu, attentive but not intrusive plus polite to give us a heads up that the second seating was about to arrive. I mentioned to the wait staff it was my birthday and they put a candle on a brownie and sang happy birthday. Thank you - I’m very touched."

"We had a wonderful night of delicious food and wine. Every dish was amazing. They are known for their dry aged beef cuts and the T-bone was certainly impressive. But the side of super crunchy beef fat potatoes were a highlight too. Both the pastas were heavenly as was their special butter garlic prawn dish, we were glad the waiter gave us a generous serve of extra bread to soak up the sauce! Their wine list was huge and featured many Australian and imported options. The wines the bottle were marked up quite a lot. There’s also option to have a half bottle and many other cocktail options."

"I was really excited to try this place. Menu looked great and it had great reviews. It had been on my list for a while. Ordered the Spanner Crab Tagliatelle and the King George Whiting. The pasta was delicious. It had a good bit of spice, which was unexpected but not unwelcome. The pasta was silky smooth, and there were some good chunks of crab to be had. It was a little bit on the salty side, but not to the point of it being overly unpleasant. I’d give it a 9/10. The fish, it was pretty good, but nothing that stood out. 7.5/10 there. We ordered the Tiramisu for dessert. It was a decent Tiramisu. Not the best you’ll find, but by no means bad. Could’ve had some stronger flavour and there was something missing from the texture which I can’t put my finger on. 8/10. Enjoyed the cocktails and the staff were friendly. All round good vibes here. 8.5/10"

"My husband and I had Valentine’s Day dinner here, and had a lovely time. Our server Harry was amazing and the food was delicious. Definitely recommend. The menu is very limited if you don’t eat seafood or beef, & a lot of the seating is up a flight of stairs, so keep that in mind when booking."
