John Wearn Reserve Playground 161 Balaka Drive, Carlingford, New South Wales 2118
About the Business
Welcome to John Wearn Reserve Playground, located in Carlingford, Australia. This establishment is part of the North Rocks Park Precinct, which was developed by the City of Parramatta. The masterplan for the precinct includes recommendations for the entire area, including the buildings, parkland, sports fields, and community facilities.
At John Wearn Reserve, you can enjoy a Safari theme playground, a dog park, a multicourt, fitness equipment, an amphitheatre, a skate park, and new amenities block. This 2.4-hectare reserve is situated on the corner of Farnell Avenue and Balaka Drive, offering a wide range of facilities for all ages.
The reserve is a key recreational area, featuring BBQ and picnic areas, circuit bike/walking tracks, an enclosed playground, basketball/netball practice hoops, a covered stage, and the Council-operated North Rocks Child Care Centre. Additionally, the larger North Rocks Park, spanning 7.4 hectares, includes a Senior Citizens Centre, North Rocks Tennis Courts, the Don Moore Community Centre, a sportsground, cricket nets, a walking path, and a playground. The City of Parramatta Council recently constructed a childcare centre within the park.
We have been engaging with the community to gather feedback on the Park Precinct and have received positive responses. The community values the park facilities, which are utilized by all age groups for various activities. They appreciate the diversity and multi-purpose nature of the park and would like to see it further strengthened in the future.
Improvement priorities for North Rocks Park, as identified by the community, include enhancing the facilities and ensuring they cater to all users. John Wearn Reserve, although less well-known, is also a popular spot for passive recreation. The community expressed a desire to improve facilities, particularly for youth.
The construction of John Wearn Reserve is almost complete, with the installation of park furniture and planting of trees and groundcover plants. However, please note that the site is still an active construction zone and is not yet open to the public.
The contractor has made significant progress in various aspects of the park, including the dry creek bed, amenities building, fitness equipment, concrete paths, retaining walls, and multi-use court. All play equipment items have been installed in the playground.
The lighting at North Rocks Park has also undergone a major upgrade, with the installation of six new metal LED lighting poles. These lights can be controlled through a smartphone app and provide optimal illumination at 50 lux or 100 lux.
Finally, the City of Parramatta Council acknowledges and respects the Dharug people, the traditional custodians of the land. We extend our respect to the elders past and present and to all Aboriginal people visiting this site.
We look forward to welcoming you to John Wearn Reserve Playground once construction is complete. Stay tuned for updates on the opening date and the exciting amenities that await you!
