Storey Park Playground is a brand new community facility that opened its doors on Sunday, January 26, 2020. Built on the site of the existing Asquith community center, this facility offers a wide range of amenities for visitors to enjoy.
The construction progress has been well-documented, with updates provided at various stages. In December 2019, the community center was nearing completion, with internal fittings, flooring, kitchen and bathroom fixtures, and power already installed. The exterior featured completed cladding, playground installations, and freshly laid grass. The final touches included the installation of gates, fencing, retaining walls, and landscaping.
In August 2019, the community center was close to the lock-up stage, with doors ready to be installed. The roof, wall cladding, and windows were complete, and the building was prepared for painting. Inside, insulation, gyprock, and flooring were being installed, with completion expected in the following month. The playground progress was also notable, with climbing nets, slides, play equipment, and footpaths taking shape.
March 2019 saw the construction progress with the completion of the building's foundations and the formation of the steel frame. Work also began on the retention and rainwater tanks, which have a capacity of over 40,000 liters for on-site reuse. Brickwork commenced on the external walls, and the roof was set to begin in the coming weeks.
In November 2018, after two weeks of wet weather, demolition works were completed, making way for the new community center and park infrastructure. The site was cleared, and site set-out began in preparation for the footings.
In August 2018, the council appointed builders, and construction was set to commence the following month. The project was expected to be completed by late 2019, subject to weather conditions.
