"I've been coming here for many years. It's not for you if you are a foodie. Just stay away and keep your snobby views to yourself. It's for locals and regulars and friends who meet up to have a meal. It's 1980 style, reliable traditional Aussie Chinese food and that's fine by me. This place has fed locals, business people and families forever. It's an institution, famous for its ordinariness and the Back to the Future 1980s Chinese restaurant decor that never changes. Its not trying to be anything else. Tomorrow night I will dine 5 star in the city with all the pomp and ceremony that goes with it; tonight I feel like I'm in my living room, at home with friends eating Chinese, and that's fine by me. It feels real, the house Shiraz is real, it's Thursday night, crowded with tired but happy people and I don't need to be at a 5 star circus. Home, cuppa and bed. Perfect night with my son."
"Catering for Western taste. If you are Chinese or know what good Chinese food is like, avoid this. When you walk in and there is not a single Chinese customer, you know it's time to turn around and walk out that door. Go to a BBQ king or similar in chatswood and the quality would outshine this place."
"Firstly the atmosphere is great, full of locals who seem to know the waiters and owner so five stars for ambience. I also like the nostalgic 80s decor complete with plates and bowls like what I grew up with. I was hoping the food would be great but was disappointed, the dishes were either bland, too salty or too oily.... just meh. Golden Century is on a totally different planet and only rated 3.9 and is at a similar price point."
