About the Business
Welcome to the wat djerring Animal Facility, located at 20 Companion Place in Epping, Australia. Formerly known as the Epping Animal Welfare Facility, this institution is managed by Whittlesea City Council in partnership with Merri-bek and Darebin Councils. Our mission is to achieve the best possible outcomes for both animals and our community.
At the wat djerring Animal Facility, we have developed an operating model in collaboration with the three Councils to reduce euthanasia rates and maximize the number of animals reunited with their owners or placed in loving new homes. We are committed to providing the highest level of care and welfare for all animals under our responsibility.
If you have lost a pet, you can collect them from our facility during opening hours for a fee. Please remember to bring proof of your pet's current animal registration to have them released. Additionally, we encourage you to consider adopting a pet from us. You can apply online through our Adoption Form, and view available pets on the PetRescue website.
Our facility also offers veterinary services, including vaccinations, flea and worm treatments, microchipping, and any other necessary medical care. We prioritize the well-being of animals and only consider euthanasia as a last resort when it is the most humane option. To ensure ethical decision making, a committee consisting of experienced staff from each council, the wat djerring Animal Facility Veterinarian, and Coordinator will determine which unclaimed animals are suitable for rehoming.
Council bears the responsibility for the medical costs of animals in our care. A dedicated vet is available to provide health checks, medication, and emergency care if needed. For owners searching for lost pets, we are in the process of developing a lost report register where you can leave your details and upload photos of your missing pet. This will help us cross-reference lost reports with the animals in our facility.
As part of our commitment to continuous improvement, we will regularly review our approach to ensure that we are delivering the best outcomes for animals and the community. We are also exploring the possibility of establishing a volunteer program to further enhance our services.
For more information, you can visit the Animal Welfare Fund Grants Program on the Animal Welfare Victoria website. Thank you for choosing the wat djerring Animal Facility, where we prioritize the well-being and happiness of all animals in our care.

Reviews
"A few weeks ago I came in to adopt a cat and ended up bringing home the beautiful “Greg”. Kerry and the ladies were so wonderful and informative and really took their time to help me find the right cat. Thanks to Kerry “Greg” has settled right into our family and filled the hole in our family. A wonderful facility with just as wonderful staff!"
"we came in on Saturday, big thanks to the staff (Felicity, molly and broady) they made the kids feel welcome, they didn't want to leave and there service was above expectation.. definitely will be shopping here again! thank you for your help with the purchase of shoes, amazing!"
"Their phone system leaves a lot to be desired. If I was someone who’d lost a pet and was trying to get through to them I would have found trying to get through to them extremely distressing. First, I was on an infinite loop of selecting “1”, then after trying that for 25 minutes I selected “3” for “all other enquiries”and got transferred to the Council directly, which is not what I wanted, and then it was a message saying “due to unforeseen circumstances we can’t talk your call” anyway! What a joke. It was much more straight forward and helpful when the center was run by the RSPCA."
"The people here are very nice. Most humans are horrible to animals. I would like the animals to rise up and take over the government. My cat would be president, as he's already quite bossy. Please donate to Epping Animal Welfare Facility to help make my dreams come true. Thankyou."
