"This business involves some incredible creative talent and has created a great platform for film makers and actors. But on an administrative level it has the same nepotistic problems as every other Australian creative endeavour. The planning and marketing of events are most generously described as sporadic, chaotic and fairly secretive. The producers and planners create a fantastic environment for film makers and actors involved. But that falls away when they have to handle customer sales, booking venues and promotions. Whenever I’ve had to deal with organisers after promotions begin I feel less like I’m dealing with a prestigious Australian film festival and more like I’m dealing with a newly created theme restaurant or a community college drama program. Less drama, more festival."
"All rugged up in the hustle and bustle of the State Theatre foyer, bumping into friends you haven't seen since last festival, got a double bubbles to last me and large popcorn - turned the phone off (breath out!) , sink down in seat in the dark and be transported to another place and time...it's the best - get addicted!"
"I love Sydney Film Festival. The Opening Night party is one of the best in town and every year I am amazed and enthralled by the breadth and depth of the films."
"Brilliant film festival. I saw several movies at this year's edition. Most of which were great, and all were challenging movies of the type that aren't shown enough in cinemas."
"Too much films in just two weeks with lots of overlaps does not add any quality or value to the festival. Go for engaging more people with less films and focusing on more conversation around films. The HUB is a symbolic version of it."
