Cashel Folk Village
About the Business
Welcome to Cashel Folk Village, located on Dominic Street in Cashel, Co. Tipperary. Our establishment is not only a point of interest and tourist attraction but also a renowned museum that has been ranked as the number one museum in Co. Tipperary every year since its inception on Tripadvisor.
Situated just 350 meters away from the iconic Rock of Cashel, Cashel Folk Village offers a captivating journey into the rich history of Ireland. As a multi-award winning museum, we proudly showcase a vast collection of original memorabilia from various periods of Irish history. Our aim is to provide visitors with an interesting, educational, and inspiring experience, delving into the real and unadulterated history of Ireland.
We would like to express our gratitude to the Tipperary Tourism Company, Failte Ireland, and their entire teams for their outstanding efforts in promoting Tipperary Tourism. We commend their ongoing endeavors to make Ireland's Ancient East a must-do experience, parallel to the success of the Wild Atlantic Way.
Although Cashel Folk Village was originally believed to be the birthplace of Rev. John Lanigan D.D., renowned for his work "The Ecclesiastical History of Ireland," it was officially established as a museum in 1984. The founder, Martin O'Dwyer Bob, was a highly respected historian in County Tipperary. He was not only the Chairman and co-founder of The Cashel Historical Society but also the author of eight books on Irish and Tipperary history. Martin's dedication to preserving history extended to the creation of St. Marks Famine Graveyard in Cashel, a poignant memorial to the victims of the Irish Famine who were laid to rest in unmarked graves on unconsecrated grounds.
Presently, the museum is curated by Bernard Minogue, the son-in-law of the founder. Bernard's family has a unique historical connection to the nearby Rock of Cashel. His father, grandfather, granduncle, and great grandfather were the last sole caretakers of The Rock. Furthermore, his first cousin, Elaine Moriarty, serves as the Chief Guide at The Rock, maintaining a family link to the castle dating back to 1892.
As you visit the Rock of Cashel, you will notice an old stone house or rock cottage directly beneath it. This house has been the home of the Minogue Family, who have served as caretakers of The Rock since the 19th century. Bernard Minogue not only resides in this historic house but was also born within its walls, adding a personal touch to his role as curator.
We invite you to immerse yourself in the captivating history of Ireland at Cashel Folk Village. Come and explore our museum, where the past comes to life through our extensive collection of artifacts. Discover the stories that shaped Ireland and gain a deeper understanding of its cultural heritage. We look forward to welcoming you to Cashel Folk Village on Dominic Street in Cashel, Co. Tipperary.

"A must see!! A wonderful museum at an incredibly reasonable price that gives a fascinating in depth history of Cashel and Ireland. It contains hundreds of original artifacts, including bog butter (you can learn what that is if you go). Overall an 11/10 experience— go if you can!"
"It was a really informative and eye-opening experience! Would recommend to everyone who is passionate about history and would like to learn more about the Irish past. Our guide, who was the owner itself, is a really kind and knowledgeable gentleman who has a true passion for Irish history and who managed to build everything out of hard work and ambition! It is really impressive and definitely worth to pay a visit! Highly recommend!"
