"During of one of my walks in Bristol around Wapping Wharf I came across these old ruins of a gate entrance. Since I have discovered that it was used as a gaol and here it was the last execution of a female in England and the last execution in Bristol. It was commissioned in 1816 and took its first inmates in 1820 with the first execution takes place in 1821. In 1831 the prison was burned by during the Bristol riots and which the prisoners were released. The prison it was rebuilt soon afterwards. The gaol was closed in 1883 and the remaining prisoners moved to the city's new prison at Horfield. The gatehouse is the only piece remaining which you can see today."
