"Hotel stay 1 night. Decent location for car access to York. Parking is excellent with a good size car park right opposite the pub itself right by the river. Check video for location. Reception is in the pub which is fine. The WiFi only seemed to work in the pub area and not in the room I was in, however, there was another WiFi access point available; see pic. The shower was a ascot type, ie the flow rate has to reduce in order to heat the water, it is adequate. Breakfast was from 9.00am, this is quite late compared to other establishments. . ."
"Popped in during a walk with family. Lovely place, made to feel very welcome, dogs too."
"Oh dear. If you are thinking of staying here you need to know a few things before you spend your money. The website is misleading...this business is being run down and it shows. No chef or room service staff they've left apparently. The pub is completely closed on Mon and Tues, and closes at 9pm on Wed and Thursdays. Just stayed 2 nights in the 'Executive' Room and paid £240. Room is small and basic, small tv, mattrass as flat as a pancake..well past its shelf-life, en-suite is not the one pictured on the web site...its smaller without a bath. No toiletries, no shower mat, "hot" water just warm at best, shower low pressure flow. Room not serviced after first night. The only saving grace for the one star was a decent breakfast provided by the manager...who has to everything due to no staff. I feel I've been ripped off at £120 per night and it spoiled the break my wife and I had been looking forward to visiting York. You have been warned."
"I was made to feel very welcome by Carl the general manager. My room was spotlessly clean with a great ensuite. The food was excellent and plenty of it. Carl's risotto is to die for. Would I go back .. .. in a heartbeat"
"Myself and family hosted a celebration of my late father's life in September 2022. this was to give those who couldn't attend the funeral in 2021 due to restrictions, closure. The team and their manager Carl Rodgers helped us every step of the way. The onsite conservatory function room was exceptional and we were made to feel free to use the space as if it was our own. The venue supplied a fantastic cold buffet that surpassed all expectation. I can not fault the dedication to the quality of food and standards The Ship provides both in the restaurant area and for parties. Transcending that of commercial venues or hotels Conduct was second to none, with a very professional yet approachable manner. I had to manage a lot of family groups and rely information numerous times. The staff were very considerate of this and I felt very respected at all times. Myself and my Brother also stayed in the Endeavor room (named after Capt. James Cook's HMS Endeavor) it was very welcoming and the overall accommodation felt more like a homely modern cottage rather that a BnB or hotel with a great view of the river Ouse and a clear vantage of the outside and parking areas. These areas appear with care and class. I could see the venue being great for a wedding. I highly recommend The Ship York to anyone looking for a unique, high class and private place to getaway or hold an important function. Thanks again to Carl and the team for helping me create a day as special as my father and bring closure to family and friends."
